ivan
Lin spotted a young rabbit wandering round in our garden earlier this evening. Our neighbours had mentioned seeing it in their garden a week or two ago and were worried in case their dogs got at it. It didn't seem to be too worried when I went near it, so I assume it may well be someones escaped pet. Anyway, I upended a cat basket and put a few bits of lettuce underneath, propping the basket open with a stick. Sure enough, ten minutes later we had a securely caged rabbit sitting in the front room. The question is now, what the heck do I do with it? The poor thing is sitting there chewing at the bars and sh!tting pellets all over the newspaper under the cage. I've got no decent cage to keep it in long term (and don't want it anyway). There are also plenty of foxes roaming this particular part of suburbia so I'm loathe just to put it outside to fend for itself. Do you think I should take it somewhere more rural and let it out or what?
Ian W
Take it to the RSPCA mate, they'll keep it for a wee while and try and rehome it or find it's original owner (i've adopted two from them before) Ian
Ewen
Is it rampant ?
Mike B
It's the killer rabbit from monti python. Does it have red eyes when you turn out the lights? RSPCA, give them a call at any rate.. If I lost my pet I would look in the animal sanctuary first.
ManwithSupra
if it is domesticated it probably can't fend for itself in the wild. Can you stick up flyers or advertise that you have found it? Otherwise maybe a local vet or RSPCA could take care of it and trace the owner/rehome it. In the meantime, don't give it too much lettuce, tends to cause the runs!! ivan
What colour is it Ken - a brown one or a more domestic colour such as white, black, colour mix etc? It's a brown one with sticky-up ears. Makes me think it's a wild one. Though what it would be doing living in the middle of Parkstone is beyond me. There's no greenery for a good half mile or so. Rang the local vet just now. No-one's reported one lost so it's off to the RSPCA on the way to the Heron meet later.
