michel lane
I just had my new SP oil pump installed and iam seeing 3bar on idle at 900rpm and crusing 8 bar, but on full boost iam seeing 9.5-10bar , is this ok ?? i have never seen this before on the stock pump. any advice ?? Tricky-Ricky
Sounds a little high, my old pump would idle at around 28-35psi and regularly see 120psi at over 4,000 rpm, are you sure the gauge is accurate, i have two one electronic cheap! and one Blitz, needless to say they don't agree with each other. However my new pump PHR runs at lower pressure.
michel lane
That sounds strange , the phr /sp oil pumps are designed to increase oil pressure , and you lost pressure....where is your sensor located ?? mine is in the sandwich plate on the filter relocation unit .maybe thats why its high ?. Tricky-Ricky
As far as I'm aware, the PHR pumps are just hand assembled and the oil drain opened up a bit, they are just Toyota pumps, its not like they are re machined, you cant decrease the clearances. My sensors are in the sandwich plate and the Blitz sensor is in the Lexus bolt, which is the one i trust.
michel lane
I though they upgrades the oil return valve , by putting a stronger spring on it and modifying the oil seal aswell. What oil are you using ? previously i was running 5/40 fully syn now its gone to 10/50 , this could increase the pressure aswell.
Tricky-Ricky
Never seen any info regarding pressure relief spring upgrade, can't see a point to this anyway, higher oil pressure isn't always a good thing, it would also cause more leakage from between the rotors which would only contribute to overwhelming the seal, which i think was one of the contributing reasons for my seals kept failing, as well as being scored/worn, and my old pump was modified by enlarging the drain hole. AFAIK they don't come with a seal fitted, i had to buy and fit one myself, i am using 10w40 semi synth. Chris Wilson
That sounds silly high pressure. The modded pump appears to just have the oil drain back hole enlarged slightly. The rotor and annulus are stock, as is the oil pressure relief valve spring. Uses a stock Toyota oil seal, too, AFAIK.
RobSheffield
I had my Defi mounted in the oil filter relocator sandwich plate area, and that used to read high too.

When you say full boost I take it you mean max engine speed? Oil pressure is a function of engine speed, not anything to do with performance (unless you have so much blow by that you are pressurising the crankcase ). Yes it was rev speed related ... could it be were i have mounted the pressure sensor ?? . i just dont understand how changing the pump would suddenly give the amount of pressure difference. Iam going to pull the pressure valve of and change the spring to the old unit , and see if it changes.

If the PRV has got a bit of muck in it when it was pulled apart and modified by PHR and jammed then that would put your oil pressure through the roof. The closer you put the sensor to the pump the higher your reading will be, but yours is proper high. The proper place to measure it is in the main gallery.
