I had one on my last house, it cost £15000, it was too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter, it never got used except for dinners when we had no space, i agree a brick built extension or as I have now a large summer house, I paid £3300 for the current summer house I have, built it in 3 days with my father, installed 2 lazy boy chairs, a TV, DVD surround sound,of course lighting and power sockets, few bits of Gym equipment and it is fantastic

Yeah that sounds about right, but it's peace of mind as they do the lot. I'm putting in a similar size one at the moment, and it's taking FOREVER doing it at weekends etc. But it will end up costing me around 5k all in.

It's important to consider the location and direction of garden, insulation and heating etc to get it right else like has been said it will be mad extremes of heat. I am hoping I've got it right as it's going to be a dining room.

An extension of the same size will cost far more and also definately require PP & building control and also you may end up spending even more inside the original house because of window locations etc unless you're lucky!!

How does that work with insurance? I just figured an insurance company wouldn't be interested?

Contents cover only, they had no issue with that

You do not need planning permission either which was a bonus, worth calling your local council however as it is not the same for eveyone

I fitted an alarm and blinds, it has a heater and air con as well now, I spend more time in there watching sky etc than in the house !!

If I put the PC in there I could almost move in :D

Wow I am impressed, I thought that they would be relatively easy to break into or burn down hence making insurance companies nervous. It took me long enough to find a company that would insure my stereo inside my house, let alone in a structure in the garden!

Trade Building Plastics Ltd - We are a one off in oxfordshire and mainley supply the trade there windows/doors/conservatories etc, but we will also deal with the public. If anyone is interested in a price they can pm me their details and I will process a quote with CADS and post them or fax/email. As we have our own delivery transport there would a delivery charge to outside of oxfordshire btu I would be able to keep it to a minimum. We also survey within oxfordshire.

Price depends on a lot of things, if its proper footings or built from a reinforced raft, what type of roof etc, if you shop around im sure you will get it down a bit but as others have said you are much better off with an extension.

had mine built last year, cost me about £1500 for basewrok and brickwork, and £6000 for conny to supply and fit,i then did the plumbing and electrics myself

mine was a 3x5 with full pitched roof and box gutter

Sounds like mine :) Except we're doing the basework too, although I am questioning whether that was a good idea now haha.

How are you finding the temperature control? That is my biggest concern at the moment...

Got any pics? :D

You can up the price if you go for tinted outer glass and inner K-Glass, for better thermal control.

well im a plumber, all i did was calculate heat loss etc and brought the rad it required, i also had some special uprated glass put in, in sunny days it is warm, but not as hot as others ive sat in, in the winter it is as hot as every other room in the house :)

Oooo that's what I need to know. Is it worth going for the Pilkington K glass? I've gone for uprated roof option but don't know about the rest of it. Does it really make a difference to how hot it gets? My garden is south facing so I'm seriously considering it.
