imi
I never understood why spectators put their lives at risk by standing so close to the track....
adnanshah247
thats graphic man. tru that the spectators should stay bak, i remember old rally videos were people would stand in the middle of the track waiting for the audi quattro 2 cum and they jump last second taking pics, them audis hit a lot of people you know but they still didnt learn! carl0s
That's the thing.. it's a frikin' rally! Whose fault was it. In my opinion it's the spectators fault for standing on a rally track, surely?

I agree if you go to watch a rally you know the risks and to stand on the outside of a fast corner so you can see up the straight before...well thats stupid! I think the problem is that the driver carried on after he hit the spectators. The spectators should have known better than to stand where they were. it doesn't take a genius to work out that if you are stood on the outside of a corner at the exit there's a good chance that if a car spins you're gonna get hit. Ark
Yeah the spectators were completey stupid standing where they were but don't think he should of driven off. Why not? If he had spun and not hit anyone, or clipped a tree or something, he would have carried on. What would it achieve for him to stop? He's probably not a paramedic. As has been previously pointed out, the spectators were just dumb for standing in the way - it's Darwinianism in action.

Would all the other drivers have stopped the race to keep it fair or would they have carried on? I reckon the latter.

grahamc
In South Africa, there is an event called King of the Hill. Its pretty good, all sorts of cars race up a mountain pass in Ceres. Had a mate that competed the one year, in an old 912 porsche that he had restored, more for fun and speed. Managed to go off and hit a camera man that was in front of the barrackeds (where he was NOT supposed to be). He felt really bad about it, but there is a disclaimer on the tickets (normal and press passes) about where you are supposed to stand, etc. Camera man was an absolute *********** for being where he was. I dont see why the rally driver should have to stop? Ok, yes, on the road, probably a good thing to stop, but on a rally track you have another carcoming rather quickly around a rather dangerous corner, and having a car standing in the middle of a small dirt road is not the best of ideas... Thats the nature of rallying. people stand close to the tracks, but to just disregard their humanity because the guys in a race is just sick Very cold

Gaz6002
If someone sits in a tiny boat in the middle of a busy shipping lane and then gets capsized by the wake of an oil tanker whose fault is it? If someone was standing on the runway at Heathrow and then gets blasted backwards by the engines of a plane over a fence and into Surrey who is to blame? It's the spectators fault, simple as that. Wrong place, wrong time.
