Burna
As said before Jon is the man to speak to By the sound of it I don't think this case will be too much hassle either Jake.
Guest Artermis
you have to report any accident to the police anyway. your insurer will probably ask you for the crime number relating to the incident anyway, so if you havent reported it dont forget to do so! good luck getting it all worked out! JustGav
Sorry to hear this.. I got hit while stationary at a set of lights a few years back in SA by a police vehicle... part of the investigation was analysing my driving *shrug*. I stood up in court and asked how my driving could be questioned since I was stationary, needless to say the police report didn't mention how I was stationary. Took me 12 months to get my pay out from them...but that was in SA.

snake
They the [police] wont even tell you if the other driver has insurance.I caught some kids who had hit my parents car and about to drive off.I took the car details to the police and under the data protection act they would not tell me if they had insurance. Jake
Hmmm. This isn't good. I've spoken to the guy 3 times today trying to get his insurance details. He keeps promising to call me back with the details but never does. I'm getting seriously pi55ed off now.

I was in same position when a chap smacked into me but while for looking around for quotes to fix I was pointed to Accident Exchange (mentioned above) and they just took over the whole thing, and got the insurance details, courtesy car etc. Or you could just give the guy a deadline after which you'll be contacting the police. JustGav
Yup, i think you should report any accident with in 24hrs to cover ya self? Yup, mel almost got done for that... Some pillock nudged her, they tapped mirrors nothing serious ZERO damage, and the bloke then turned round and chased her. She obviously didn't stop and used evasive driving. She went to the police station the next day, and because it had occured in the morning and she was reporting it in the evening, they were going to do her for not stopping and not reporting an accident... Jake
I've just phoned the police and was told that you definitely do not have to report an accident in which nobody was injured as long as contact details were exchanged. Apparently you're not obliged to supply insurance details either.
Homer
If you ring your insurers they can locate the persons insurance company and sort out all the arrangements. This is what I did with my accident (especially after losing the other persons name address and insurance company, they found everything from just the reg plate). It was a very smooth process and needed almost no input from me once the process had started.
Wez
Just hand his contact details to your insurance company and let them deal with it, thats what you pay them for.
michael
I presume a claims management company could do the same?

SupraAyf
That's bad news Jake. I would take Homers advice and see what comes of it. Just keep on top of the process by phoning the insurance compnay every few days to make sure they get their shit together.
Jake
Just hand his contact details to your insurance company and let them deal with it, thats what you pay them for. I presume a claims management company could do the same? What are the Pros and Cons of using a claim management company? What will they do for me over and above what my insurance company will do? Obviously I'd like the least hassle possible and a decent loan car. What happens if you use a claim management company and it ends up getting judged to be 50/50 or your fault? (Not that I can see how anyone could make this my fault - but you never know)
