Burble Burble
That overheating problem where i had a hose pop, it did it agin, (the overheating), this time the rad bottom blew out and my head gaskets gone. Bummer, they'll be stripping it tomorrow so i'm just hoping it's a head skim and a gasket. Help my compression that's what I'm telling myself. It's had a blockage so when I drove it hard it's just taken the heat from the tubs straight to the engine with no cooling water backing the oil up. Sigh.... just hope it's not done anything worse. Burble Burble
Why didnt you get the overheating problem sorted before hard driving again?? Sorry to hear mate. Must be gutted. Oops badly written, it was the hard driving the first time that popped the hose, it's weakened the rad, that's popped on the a259 coming home from work, you CAN'T drive hard on the 259 at 7:30 at night. (Not advocating it by the way). I'm peed off that we thought the problem had been cleared, it ran fine for three days, then just gave up.
jim_supra
Not good, although hopefully the head won't be warped and won't need skimming. Might be an idea to change the valve stem seals while the heads being done. Incidentally, I have just finished doing the head gasket on my mk3 after it decided to let go. so you're not the only one. Wez
How do you know the head gasket has gone?
Burble Burble
How do you know the head gasket has gone? when it happened I wondered myself as it started to sound like a bag of nails, (bit of an exaggeration but it wasn't purring wonderfully), and there was a wisp of smoke from between 1,2 and 3,4 (each side of the block), so i took it to a garage in ninfield and the gent who does the work knows his stuff. It's being stripped today and I'm off there tomorrow with my camera to get pics for myself. I'm a tad sad like that.
