1. To buy - Free if you look in local papers, but can be up to £250 for a purebreed

2. to get all jabs etc. - I think its about £40 all in all although that was a few years ago.

3. to insure - No more than £6-8 a month

4. to feed each week - £10 maybe depends on what you feed it cheapo adsa ash or sheeba lol you will be probably looking at 2-4 small tins a day or 1 1/2 big tins

5. scratching post thing - around £20 yes about £20 for a bit of twine and a log !

Litter Tray and Cat lit - Tray well about £5 cat litter £5 ish depending on how much your cat eats will determin how much you spend on cat lit.

Flea treatment - about £7 - 12 a treatment (maybe more)

Think about perhaps a bed for it (a basket and a blanket) otherwise it will be him and your missus and you will be sleeping on the floor lol £10

After a few months - New sofa ..... £1000 :) - if you get a kitten that is they always tend to try and claw the sofa even after you have bought them £££'s of different kinds of scratching posts, hoping that they will stop.

1. From free to lots of money, our Siamese was rather expensive for a cat.

2. Think you're looking at upto £100 including neutering... but, ideally they should have had at least the first round of injections before you get them. Think neutering was ~£50 (for a male, females a bit more)

3. £6 a month I think

4. Depends on whether you're just going to buy big bag of el cheapo supermarket biscuits or feed them on premium food. But say tenner a week tops? I don't really take notice, I'm guessing. Yoshi has Royal Canin special Siamese breed food which is obviously one of the more expensive brands. You should feed mainly on dry food rather than tinned/pouches of meat.

5. again from not very much for a little post... to quite a bit more for the floor to ceiling one we have :D

My sister's cat has just had a litter a few weeks ago, they are all still with the mum but i think some have peoples names on them, if you want one ill ask if she has any left.

we got a couple a month or so ago. we got them from a rescue centre so were £50 each but all jabs and stuff for the year had been sorted. then its £9 a month insurance for both of them together. we innially spent about £80 on cat beds, toys litter box, cat flap etc. and now spend no more than £10 on food for the both of them, thats 2 boxes of felix pouches and a bag of nuts.

any details/pics? don't need one until August though as don't want to leave it whilst we're on honeymoon

Razza,

i buy you a cat plus my car for yours (car)? :p

weird wedding pressie? whats wrong with a toaster?

buy my car and shut it:p

she keeps nagging me for one so this way I get one and don't have to get a seperate wedding present either, besides which we've got a toaster;)

I've yet to own a cat that hasn't used furniture as a scratch post.

Don't have one if you've got expensive furniture.

Also be prepared for the headless birds, dead mice etc that the cat likes to bring home.

I look forward to the first time she finds one in the kitchen:D

Thanks for the info guys

Don't rule out rescue cats. You will miss out on the kitten stage and sometimes they will have to visit your home so as to ascertain you have the right environment for a cat but you also get the warm fuzzy feeling that comes with knowing you may have saved that cat from the needle.

If you want something a bit different, try one of these:

Maine Coon cat. I'm working on my missus to allow me to get one!

Ollie

Sky Insurance

Jeeezz that thing is massive lol

1. To buy

2. to get all jabs etc.

3. to insure

4. to feed each week

5. scratching post thing

1. Mine cost me £10 from a Rescue Place

2. Initial Jabs were £24 then a booster 2 weeks later (free) and top up every year around £25

3. Mine is not Insured

4. I buy a 6 pack of Whiskas a week £2.98 plus a pack of Whiskas Dry food (last 2-3 weeks)

5. Scratch post cost me £12 and was the best thing I did. My Boy scratches the shit out of that and he does not at all scratch my Sofa.

Others:

Had him Neutered when he was 6 months, £30 summat quit (Can't quite remember)

Flea Treatment monthly round £5

Wormer every so often

Toys now and again

Only other thing they need is love and a good home. I still can't sometimes believe how lucky I was to find my Cat as he is the most loving and affectionate little thing. :)

Oh, there is one but though :( He brings me part eaten baby rabbits, headless mice, pigeons, seagull babies, stoats, newts and slow worms.

whats her attitude to cats? you think she would like a full grown cat, or a little pussykins? If there is any doubt whether she will love the cat - and if the cat will have be able to be an outdoor cat, then go for something else. I'm hoping you got her an beautiful and expensive ring? so a cat might not even be necessary?!
