I bought an Integra Type R *pic*

Thought it only right that I should let you know what car I decided on after I got quite a lot of help on the subject here.

I had decided to get an 200sx, but in the end it was too big for me and I fancied something without the tail happy tendancies in the wet.

Then I was dead set on a GT4. But when I drove one, though fast, it felt too high up and too much like a normal car.

So I bought an Integra Type R. Picked it up yesterday, very pleased, corners amazingly. Got a lovely example with only 27,500 miles and a Honda warranty.

Very good choice. My son bought one in black about 3 years ago and it is a fantastic car and very reliable. I drive it quite often and as said the cornering ability is fantastic. The only thing it does not like is aftermarket rims, spoils the handling completely. Hope you have as much fun driving it as we have.

Thanks for all the nice comments.

Well obviously only had it for a short time, but I have done a few miles already. Its rather thirsty for a 1.8 :D

I have to say that I love it so far. Yesterday I was thinking that it was too harsh, the seats are rock hard. The ride VERY firm but not harsh. But I soon got over it :D

Today was an eye opener, driving the roads which I know very well, the car is so balanced through the corners. Amazing turn-in. I am surprised myself, just how good it is.

Although not incredibly fast, it feels it ! Its a very exciting drive. Especially when you go into the vtec. If you have an induction kit fitted the noise goes crazy ! You feel like you are driving with the devil on your shoulder and you are actually still almost within legal speeds :D

And when you put the power down on a damp corner, you can feel the lsd fighting to give grip. It feels almost wrong, but very right, quite strange !

Seats are awesome. I really cant fault it at this early stage. You can feel that its not a Toyota. Its not quite as sturdy, but thats the unfortunate trade off for the lighter weight.

My mates, who of course loved my supra, really loved the teg aswell, when I took them out for a cane. Still went quite well, fully loaded :D

yes that would be the characteristic of a teg,

ITR from factory standard is a race ready car, very firm suspension setup as well as it has a very well balanced corner weights which makes it almost perfect. if u control it well enough u can actually drift in one of them, (yes drifting in a FWD ).

although power on the ITR is not huge compare to many supra owner here a standard 197bhp is not a lot. standard 1/4 time is around 15.3s. cornering and handling ability is most honda's aim developement as well as a high rev engine.

lol i think i better stop here before i got kick out of this forum :D

although we do a lot of honda tuning here, but i am still very in love with all other high performance jap car include supra :D !!!

regards

Peter

I couldnt really say how thirsty yet, but it seems to drink twice as much as the na mr2 ! My mate has a civic type r and he said that when its in v-tec the fuel just p*sses in. I mean, we are not talking supra tt thirsty, but it doesnt seem that far off at the mo !

Compared to the '2 ? Well. It a LOT less comfortable ! I used to love sinking into the leather seats and chillin. But it does corner a lot better. And the whole car just feels a lot more direct. Every thing seems to happen instantly. The brakes have much better feel. My 2 was a lot older with 3 times as many miles tho. Plus the mr2 was a standard uk, so its not really a fair comparison. The teg clearly is set up driving hard with very little compromise for comfort. The 2 is lower and significantly shorter. I feel more comfortable parking the 2, you can tell where the back is a lot easier.

Overall I prefer the Teg, but I imagine an mr2 for a similar price (10k) ie a rev 4/5 turbo with have a lot more to throw into the mix. I was very unsure about leaving the toyota camp after having 3 in a row, and bought the ITR telling everyone that if I didnt love it, I would sell and get an mr2 turbo. But at the moment, I cant see that happening for a while. I still love the 2 tho. But its a more split personality, ie comfort or caning, depending on how you feel. The teg is really just for caning. id hate to do a long journey in it. And its not good when you have a headache !

There really is no comparison between my teg (99 T plate, 27k miles) and my standard uk na (96 N plate, 93k miles) though. The teg feels like its on a different planet. I am shocked myself.

I bought a new ITR from Honda in '98, and I loved it. Sure there were days when you wished for something quieter and not so 'right, lets race'. But then again, I loved it - a truly fantastic piece of engineering. A car you drove with your fingertips. The handling is spot on for a FWD car too, very neutral handling, predictable and surefooted.

I still miss it and will have another. 197bhp out of 1800cc's normally aspirated is some engineering.

I have also had (have) an MR2 mk2 Turbo, that was standard and is now far from standard. Very different beasts really, the MR2 is quicker but handling is not as finely honed as the ITR IMO.

The day before I sold the ITR, I managed just shy of 140mph on an airfield (ahem), but I ran out of road. Again, not bad for 1800cc's !!!

Way cool cars.

Matt

PS. Don't worry, I prefer my Supe to both the ITR and MR2 ;)
