There WAS 1.5cm of mastic on the car (bonnet and roof) and you can se the 3d mountains of it in the first picture or 2. It looks like some scum used tile adhesive and possibly stuck the bits of tiles to it that you can see in one of the first pictures... and these were then removed leaving the mountain of adhesive. Mastic would have come off more easily I reckon. So hes sanded the entire car (nearly) back to bare metal in preperation for a (much needed ) respray....
