Chris Wilson
Is it a Renault transaxle? Drive shaft seals leak commonly, but sometimes input shaft seals leak, too, which is a transaxle out jobbie. If you do have to pull the transaxle make sure the engine crank has the right sized spigot bearing in it for the input shaft diameter, and check the clutch wear whilst it's all apart. Shouldn't be too bad a job with someone to help manhandle the rear body section.
scooby_doo_do
Thanks Chris, We think it's the gearbox seal at the moment - but that's just me guessing. It has a porsche G50 gearbox - no idea what transaxle it's got. The garage is currently looking at it, and has told me if he can "Temp" fix it, he will - if not it's about a 1/2 a day to a day's work and he hasn't got the time to do it today. The oil preasure is good - looked like the milktray man driving to the garage with a suit and a crash helmet on! I know there's going to be a few niggly bits with it, but once it's done it'll be great (I hope!)
Chris Wilson
G50 is a good box, better than the Renault and a lot stronger, so it'll probably be very reliable when the leak's fixed. Sounds great fro the current sunshine
scooby_doo_do
i must confess, i've never been on a motorbike before, but the feeling in it with the wind battering the helmet and keep leaning down and forward to duck under the windscreen is simply amazing. I absoloutly love it. I'm hopeing it will fit in my newly built garage - its 86" wide so should fit..
scooby_doo_do
Well, i managed to get to and from Le Mans completing just over 1100 miles in the car. Car drove really well, had a few issues... 1, On the way down we noticed that there was oil spraying on the exhausts from the drive shaft seals - carried on driving and checked later and was found to be overfilled (Dropped the level and this fixed the problem. 2, Once we got there and checking averything out, i noticed the dipstick was dry. not a touch of oil on it. Put in 2 1/2 litres of oil and was back on full. (Driving it home it was noted that when i put my foot down it did through out some oil - not much but it did burn it) Was told this could be due to being a fresh engine with only 3k on it. - just going to keep checking the level and see how much she drinks. 2 1/2 litres in 750 miles seems a little exsessive. 3, Both front tyres shredded down the the cord on the inside - i'm guessing the camber's out as it may have been setup for track? either way i've nackered 2 nearly new goodyears. 4, When accelerating up hill, car is a little jerky - fueling issue maybe? Might need a tune up on the holleys. 5, when checking out the holley's we noticed that there was one breather pipe hanging off, and 2 other pipes slightly loose - tightened up and need to replace one of them. So all in all - have a few bits to keep me occupied - but i don't think it's anything too bad. Just got to keep an eye on it all for a min. Oh - and spent about £230 on fuel getting there any back. Ouch!
