I absoulutely hate animal testing, whatever it is! Its bloody wrong and cruel! :(

I agree.

its well out of order.

Their arms were held gently in a sling during the process to stop them from grabbing the food, encouraging them to learn how to use the arm.

yeah right.....I wouldnt be surprised if the monkeys have been paralysed to replicate conditions and 'the desire to move a bodypart' properly.

if thats wrong, they will sure as hell have been strapped up very tight

These "people" arent "scientists"

Scientists find cures for all sorts of diseases and things like that! Not test animals to do a "human's" dirty work!

Its disgraceful! :(

If you became paralysed or incapacitated would you refuse treatment that had been pioneered by experiments on animals such as this?

Scientists don't do these kind of things just for fun or because they are sadists. They do it to further our scientific knowledge and so that YOU and everyone else will have the potential to benefit.

Yeh but why on animals though?! Dont you agree that this is wrong to test on animals??

Why cant they test on humans?!

If you read further:

"However, the ramifications of this new research could be huge and could ultimately lead to paralysed people being able to carry out a number of functions simply with mind control."

And yes these "people" are HIGHLY qualified scientists, finding cures for 'all sorts of diseases and things like that'

How is that disgraceful?

What is disgraceful is testing on animals. I dont condone that at all!

Animals dont have any choice, they are the the test subjects whether the poor things like it or not!

I agree, it is beneficial for the future but i just wish they didnt test on animals. Some barbaric tests have been given to animals in the past

which will make your sick...:(

Testing on animals is fine... they get free marshmallows for goodness sake. I'd do it for free sweets. The whole argument of "it doesn’t have any choice" is a valid one but I don’t think it’s very good. Did the chicken that got eaten for dinner last night have any choice? Did the gazelle torn apart by lions have a choice? Did the paraplegic person have a choice?

I think the point I am trying to make here is bad things happen in life to everyone and if the worst thing going on for the monkey at the moment is it gets to use a robot arm to eat sweets. I think it is a lucky monkey.

Although some of the tests done in the past were outrageous and have no place in science. Tests such as the LD50 tests were horrific.

Yeh thats what i mean robin, tests like that, for example, should have banned animal testing full stop!

In response to Robin, I don't believe it is fine, don't you think it would be better to just test it on the mentally handicapped and/or otherwise disabled. Not only do they have less grasp on their emotions and worldy understandings but it would also produce more accurate results to what effects it has on humans (if you can call them that). Also as an extra bonus it would also save money, instead of importing monkeys and providing welfare for those of which nature would naturally eliminate, we just use the resources we have readily available. Lets call it...Eco-Friendly Humanist Experimentation.

Thanks

But the testing which is referred to in the article is a world apart from the LD50 tests. The legislation which comes with animal testing now is quite significant. It just isn't possible or legal now to do silly things like find out how much motor oil a monkey can drink before it dies. The tests have to be controlled and any harm/discomfort is limited, allot of test animals will have very good living standards; at least in this country. I don’t know about animal testing abroad.

Unfortunately a lot of them are too busy posting on mkivsupra.net these days to have the time to spare for such noble endeavours.

Has anyone seen that old video of the pig being blow torched, an experiment the germans carried out in the late 30s to research new ways to treat burns. Nasty video...

Is it right to put things into monkeys head so they can eat sweets... NO

However if something happend to me and i was left unable to move my arms i would want the primate tested confectionery eating devices up and ready to allow me to carry on my never ending misson to rid the world of haribo sour mix.

In short.... much like eating meat

I will have it but i dont want to know how it got there.
