Jim_1979
HI guys, I've read the FAQ regarding plugs, but there's so many to choose from! I'm running 1.2bar BPU. Curious as to what plugs I should be using, what does everyone else use? Any that are available on ebay, even better as I'll just paypal them. Cheers in advance! Homer
I guess it depends how handy you are at changing them (and you know how to gap a plug) El-Cheapo NGK's are fine as long as you change them every 5-6k miles. They're only £13 a set and worked fine on mine for 35k miles (obviously went through a few sets!) I tired a set of very expensive iridiums and they only lasted 7k miles so can't see why they're worth the massive premium
Jim_1979
I know how to change them and also how to gap a plug. What's the part number mate? Or even better a plug that comes gapped? cheers, Jim
Homer
NGK - BCPR7ES They come pre-gapped at 0.8mm (ish ) but need to be adjusted to 0.70 - 0.75mm to avoid misfire at high, sustained boost These have been regularly tested in a healthy engine, sustained 160mph+ is not a problem provided they are gapped correctly (and the rest of your stuff is doing it's job). Wrong gap and they will misfire in no time.

Jim_1979
Just picked up 6 for £11.49 on the good old ebay. I do about 3 to 4K max a year, so should last a fair bit.
Jake
NGK - BCPR7ES They come pre-gapped at 0.8mm (ish ) Well, some of them do. IIRC there are two types, one being 1.1mm or somesuch. I wouldn't want anyone to take it for granted - always check the gap before fitting. ( I realise you were advocating changing the gap anyway but just in case anyone was planning on running 0.8mm gaps)

I'll be checking the gap before they're fitted. My current plugs tend to misfire occasionally on high boost. A tad annoying. My previous supra done the same also when I went BPU. Jake
At what gappage? You may need a slightly smaller gap at higher boost levels.

( I realise you were advocating changing the gap anyway but just in case anyone was planning on running 0.8mm gaps) Yes, you're correct Jake, for copper plugs the gap should always be checked before installation. I should have made this clearer for people who might visit this thread in the future

I don't know what my current plugs are gapped at, but I also don't know when they were last changed. At £12 a set, I might as well just get a new set and gap them correctly. Jake
At £12 a set, I might as well just get a new set and gap them correctly. . . . IS THE CORRECT ANSWER ! I like your attitude It takes so bloody long to change the plugs on these cars that you may as well have done with it and put new ones in every time. I usually change them at the same time as the oil; every 5000 miles - as it's easy to keep track of when it needs doing then (that's twice I've said that tonight)
Jim_1979
Yeah, think I'll do the same. Oil and Filter change done about a week ago.
