Thorin
Yup that's right, yours truely is moving to your fine county! Expect house prices to rise and your general standard of living to improve. Today I've been offered a job with William Hill bookmakers in the centre of Leeds (with the small matter of a £6k a year pay increase + bonuses... Free ADSL for one ). All the hassle of answering the same questions over and over again to every agency I applied for jobs through has paid off. Thanks to Mcanny for putting me in touch with 4it recruitment, it was them who got me the job and were definately one of the best agencies I've dealt with. This forum rocks Now all I need to do is find somewhere to rent! Two bedroom house, garden, off-road parking, in a decent area... We've been thinking Castleford. That, and getting my new exhaust fitted today have made me a very happy man indeed.
neilg
Get yourself to sunny sunny Wakefield, Never see many sups round here Good luck with the move
Jake
Congrats Michael! I suppose Yorkshire is down south to you! Keep going, you'll be one of us shandy drinking southern softies soon.
michael
Congratulations - I wonder if 4IT owe me a finders fee now Where I am isn't too bad and really handy for the motorways and routes into Leeds - have a look at the nicer parts of Morley, Dewsbury, Wakefield and surrounding areas. I prefer north Leeds but the prices there are crazy for not very much, I pay the same rent get an extra bedroom a garage and a nice driveway for slumming it in the south of the city

The Hornet
Sounds like some good news matey, congrats! You don't know what slumming it is until you visited Bransholme in Hull Thank god I live in a village away from the city trash of Hull
Thorin
Visited Bransholme many a time, luckily whenever I do my car is parked behind 10 foot tall, CCTV watched, security fencing... still wouldn't put it past the scum bags attempting to nick it though! Better areas - Horbury/Ossett/Durkar/Crigglestone almost anywhere near m1 jcts 39/40/41 south&west side of Wakey. depends how far out of town & m/way you want? what would you say eyefi i (newbie ?) J4CK50N
Alrite m8 Wakefield prices are not too bad for renting, and all the places DavidD stated are not bad. I live at Denby Dale which is about 10 miles from Wakey and a few less to the M1, rent is a bit higher there but its a nice area, with a reasonable postcode for the insurance!!! Just my 2p J4CK50N

J4CK50N
Very nice pie!! There is a company now called the Denby Dale Pie Company, which has nothing to do with the World Record but do make exceeding good pies!!!!! PS I have no affiliation with this company
michael
I saw their pies in Asda last night but resisted temptation

QUOTE] you're not far from me - Netherton I've run in a few races starting at the Pie Hall (including the 'runners vs mountain bikers' race between crimbo & new year) - they always put on a good feed & open the bar after races! as well as the company - wonder if it's only up north that a village would have a Pie Hall ? J4CK50N
The Pie Hall, yes know it well, however have not been in for a number of years!!! I regularly see all the runners preparing to race, usually blocking up all of my road with their cars (the one opposite the cricket field!) lol I have to come through Netherton a few times a week coz I play football for Ossett. Those speed humps are a real PITA!!! :D Cheers J4CK50N
_Lick_
*Thorin here, I can't be bothered logging out again* Right then you lot! You've helped me get another job, now help me find somewhere to live! Looking at a few properties for rent on rightmove.co.uk (anyone know any other good ones?). Anyone know what Staincliffe's like? In Dewsbury I believe (always thought Dewsbury was a bit dodgy). http://www.rightmove.co.uk/rm/action/ViewProperty/svr/2005?chnl=rent&pa_n=1&tr_t=rent&via_search=true&inv_override=false&p_id=5367650 Or Cross Lane in Wakefield? http://www.rightmove.co.uk/viewdetails-4684247.rsp/svr/2005;jsessionid=08F3531EBC34CD75ED6F7A85F229367E?pa_n=2&tr_t=rent&chnl=rent This one looks dodgy from the front but it's cheap and Castleford isn't too bad is it? http://www.rightmove.co.uk/viewdetails-4485677.rsp/svr/2005;jsessionid=08F3531EBC34CD75ED6F7A85F229367E?pa_n=1&tr_t=rent&chnl=rent
davidd
pick of those is Wakefield - I'd want to be sure the car fits in the garage otherwise I'd want mine well out of view of the roadside. definitely not Cas.!
_Lick_
definitely not Cas.! Is Castleford a really bad place..high crime rate etc?? The house doesnt look that nice from the outside ( not viewed it so dont what its like inside ) but it has a garden bigger than a shoe box ( need room for a great dane) and I need to be able to get to Doncaster easily/everyday (for a few months at least!) hence Castleford. MONKEYmark
im looking to move to ponty anyone know if this is any good. it looks out in sticks wentwell road, streethouse, pontefract
davidd
- *Lick* you're right about Cas being better for commuting to Donny. my view is from when I used to work & go out in Cas. just didn't like/still don't like the feel of the place. Not sure if any stats. say its better/worse. asked a bloke in our dept at work who lives in a side street just off the one in the Wakey ad. - he says no probs and there's a big park at the end of the road for walkies (just couple of miles away are a couple of lakes with big walkies areas/woods) - Monkey I feel the same about Ponty as about Cas. plus one of my mates lives in a new estate between Cas & Ponty. Other than his nice estate he's not too keen on Ponty either.
davidd
[quote name=MONKEYmark streethouse, [/quote] I was brought up not far from there - reputation as a bit rough back then. I remember they stopped operating the last bus to there (among a couple of areas because of Fri/Sat night aggro.) Guess .... I would not live there either
