Pete
So last night I'm just drifting off to bobo land when at 00:10 the phone rings. I jump out of bed thinking the bad things must've happened (server failures? Break in at work? Someone is ill?) The young sounding guy at the end of the phone says "Hello, my name is Alex and I have a questionnaire to ask you." Now I know I shouldn't have risen to it and played it cool - but I'd only just woken up and my brain wasn't engaged. To which I reply "Are you taking the pi$$?" Alex : "Is your wife dead?" Followed by sounds of his mate laughing in the background. Me (In disbelief at what I'm hearing) : "What?!" Alex : "Is your wife dead?" Me (Especially after events yesterday.): " What kind of stupid f**king question is that you tw@t?" Alex : "I bet you don't even have a wife, are you a f'king crack head?" Me hangs up. Phone rings again. Pick up, put down. I've had prank calls before and had a laugh with them, but this freak really wound me up saying that. It also upset Vicki who then starts saying is anyone outside? Who was it? Are they going to break in etc. etc. Obviously the number was withheld - is there anyway to get this information as I'd love to give them a piece of my mind! Is it worth asking the Police to find out and give them a call? Perhaps twist it and tell them that they were threatening to kill my wife? I don't really want to block all unknown CLIDs with the telco.
Thorin
Report it to BT, they have a special abuse department, I'll try and dig out the number.
Paul372
if you told the police he was threatening to kill they would take action could see them doing much about a prank call tho
JustGav
So last night I'm just drifting off to bobo land when at 00:10 the phone rings. snip snip..... Nothing you can do without the CLID, if it becomes abusive or harrasment, you can ask BT/Virgin to investigate. In my experience not even worth the phone call to them unless it serious enough to get the police attention. The option I use, all my landlines call go to my VOIP setup, so the phone automatically gets answered after 9pm, and there is an access pin to ring the house phone which family members know. Thorin
I'm with Teleworst / Virgin. Then this link I just spent the last 10 minutes searching for won't be much good to you then will it! http://bt.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/bt.cfg/php/enduser/cci/bt_adp.php?p_sid=_Dnnue4j&cat_lvl1=345&cat_lvl2=351&cat_lvl3=363&p_cv=3.363&p_cats=345,351,363&p_faqid=9084 I presume Teleworst will have something similar, but you can search for yourself now

SupraStar 3000
Pete, sorry you misunderstood me mate. Didnt mean to cause you any stress I was only asking if Vicky was 'dead to the world' ie. asleep. I wanted to sneak around for a cuddle You know the usual arrangement. Seriously though, I hate people that do this. Had a few myself. Scum
Burna
I was only asking if Vicky was 'dead to the world' ie. asleep. She's the incredible sleeping woman, of course she was asleep! I'll just stick to abusing you by mobile phone Pete If you take a look at Thorins link to Virgin I think that could solve your problem Pete. Why not add Anonymous Caller Rejection to your service? Anonymous Caller Rejection is a service that will reject any callers who withhold their numbers. You can still receive calls from other networks that are unable to give out callers’ phone numbers - such as calls from abroad, analogue mobile phones or payphones. To add this feature contact our Customer Care team on 150 from a Virgin Phone.

tbourner
In all likelyhood it was just kids. I remember playing a board game with some mates when I was about 15, one of the forfeits for the loser (me) was to prank call someone!! I had to phone a random number and try to persuade them they were a chicken. Quite funny at the time. Anyway, it's not quite the same as asking people if their wife is dead!!!! And then phoning back after the shouting down!!!! And doing it at midnight!!!! Gits.
Digsy
I don't really want to block all unknown CLIDs with the telco. I guess you've got a good reason for not wanting to do it, but blocking anonymous callers is the best £10 per quarter I've ever spent.
