Does anyone here have one of these and what do you think of it?

i have had mine for a couple of months now and use it most nights as my main internet connection. The reason i got it is i thought it would be good to have internet access on the go.

But... it it truely awfull and a complete rip off. i knew it wouldn't be the fastest internet connection but basically every minute or so the connection is lost meaning everytime i try to open a page i have to dissconect then reconnect just to get a minutes connection and so on..

now i have had three previous 3G enabled mobiles which worked fast in my area and my iphones EDGE connection is very fast in my area (which is now what i use instead of the laptop as it actually works).

so i was wondering if anyone has any experiance with this device and if yours has also been a waste of money.

oh and i'm going out this week to get a 'proper' landline broadband connection and advise anyone thinking of getting the Web 'n' walk USB to steer well clear. :)

Have you got the white dongle or the black one? I've read reports that the black one is better, especially in weaker signal areas.

Interesting reading though. I'm currently reading up on different mobile broadband suppliers for a Car PC.

well I got advice from a friend who has a T-mobile mobile phone who said there signal here is great. Also, it worked great for the first month then went down hill day after day.. I got it from a T-mobile shop about 50meters from my flat so you'd expect signal wouldn't be an issue.

I have the white dongle, what's the difference between the black and white one?

I actually sell these. Please dont shoot me :(

Have you had any problems with them? Could mine just be faulty?

Here's just one page I have read in the past couple of days of research. I have no first hand knowledge on these things, just accounts from other people.

cheers for that, kind of confirmed that the other devices out there are superior.

Might go down to the T-mobile shop tomorrow and see if they can sort something out. :)

im with T-mobile and using my phone as a modem is great at home and on the move in GPRS mode but as soon as I go to 3G its very, very dodgy!

even when at work and sitting about 100meters from the transmitter it's still cr*p sometimes might connect 1 in 10 times but switch it to GPRS and works great!

I spoke to T-mobile about this (and several other probs I was having) they said they need me to try and connect it several times on approx the hour so they can get a log of the connection attepts and things to troubleshoot it.

At home I have no 3G and at work am normaly too busy so havent gotten around to sorting it all.... yet but I will.

Don't talk to me about choppy 3G signals :( I went to Spain with the task of wirelessing a Huawei E220 on Vodafone Spain, because I found last time I was there that I could get "the blue light" (i.e. HSDPA 3.6mbps) when sat in the front conservatory. So the idea was to wireless it off a Draytek 2800 to the rest of the house.

Nightmare.

The firmware upgrade to 7.2mbps worked but performance seemed slower then, and this thing just kept losing the connection (going from light blue "connected HSDPA" to dark blue "HSDPA available but not online").

The most annoying thing is that you can't connect an external antenna to these USB things, so I have to hunt out a PC-Card/Expresscard 3G compatible router, and an Expresscard HSDPA datacard, and an external antenna. That lot costs a pretty penny (£300 if I'm lucky and get the datacard off eBay) :(

We had this Huawei E220 in a net on the end of a pole holding it up high above the house. They like power those things too. That's why there's an auxiliary USB connector so it can draw an additional 500ma from another USB port. I found that if using a USB extension lead, and no aux power, the lights would dim/flicker, and a HSDPA connection was not possible at all, although GPRS was.
