HKS SSQV BOV - How to tell if it's working properly?

Guys and Gals,

If I were to suspect that my HKS SSQV bov was not operating properly, how would I go about checking/testing it? After some interesting RR results that I posted up, some people suggested that it could be a leaky bov or similar.

Whether or not it's me thinking about it too much, but the bov doesn't always sound like I think it should. I get the high pitch noise and combined "dump" noise when pushing it in boost, and I get the much loved "chatter" when cruising and only just on boost, but there are instances when I expect it to give me the chatter and it just gives me a very hollow wooshy noise, or sometimes it's a bit of a whistle woosh too. But if I try to replicate the circumstances (speed/revs/location etc) then I don't always get the same result?

Anyway, I know with my recirc valves on my last car I could test them by placing my finger over the vac pipe with the spring/plunger compressed, and if it stayed in that position then the vacuum was working and holding it, and obviously if it moved then there was a leak. I am just not sure how you test bov's?

I will probably need to take it off the car, which means removing strut brace to get to it, but if anyone can provide some info I'd appreciate it.

Sorry for the long post, didn't think I could make it shorter.

Do you have access to an air line and is it one of those that sits in the place of the stock one?

The dyno wuld have been the perfect time to check the BOV as you can get someone to stick their hand infront of it while it's under boost - any leak large enough to affect power would have been easily detectable.

thanks matey.

Don't have air line. Yes - the bov sits in the same location as the stock one, so it's just underneath the strut brace. I wanted to inspect the adapter etc under it to make sure it's all tight, didn't think about checking it on the dyno because I wasn't there when it was dyno'd - and I was also not aware the car wasn't running right until I was given the results and car back the following day.

Definately something I'll look into when I get the new rad and FPR fitted soon, and maybe chuck it on the dyno again to see if they've made any improvements.
