Marco
Hi, I'm gonna build a new PC but am a bit puzzled with graphics card options. I want a nvidia geforce 8800. This one looks alright, but pricey though, but fast memory speeds. This one is a lot cheaper, more memory, but at a slower speed. Wich one would you recommend, or are there better cards out there? My budget is around £150 or less. I want to play age of conan, so the card needs be quite powerful.
DamanC
Im guessing you looked at the prrice of a decent 9XXX card ? If your budget can stretch then a 9800GTX would be your best bet. If not then a 512MB version of an 8800GT priced around £100 will cirtainly be upto the job. They are quicker than the GTS's

DamanC
My current crt 21" can only handle 1280x1024 Thats all my LCD does but imo is perfectly sufficient. My two recomendations stand. If you dont want to spend £150+ then the 8800GT is still the wepon of choice

edge
Dont bother with the 8600gt 512mb as its pants. I use an older more quality 256mb card now and thats fine.
Angarak
You could delay your purchase, save up a little more and get the new ATI Radeon HD4870 cards which apparently wipe the floor with anything Nvidia G92 series has to offer.

I have an 8600M GS in my laptop and it works fine. FEAR runs smoothly with everything on except soft shadows and STALKER is fine too even with max grass and full lighting effects! Rest of system is a Core2Duo @ 2ghz and 2gb ram.

They are quicker than the GTS's thats what id say as well, ive got the 512mb 8800 and its a good card, you need a decent dual core processor (or quad) as well for top games like crysis (aint played that in a while) mind you i dont think there is a card out that can run crysis in max yet is there? Angarak
...mind you i dont think there is a card out that can run crysis in max yet is there? The Ati Radeon HD 2900XT can run it on max settings no problem. You have to factor in the CPU, amount/type of RAM and resolution your running it at though. There are plenty of cards out there now with better performance than the 2900XT, I think the Ati Radeon HD 3870 has equal if not better performance and its half the price of the 2900XT (when it was new). Marco
AoC is optimised for multi core processors, but only supports 2 cores, so a quad core would be overkill. I've got a quad at work and my CPU usage didnt go above 50%. I went for a Gainward Bliss 8800GT 1024mb PCI-E for £

supraGZaerotop
ihave an XFX nvidia 8800ultra, amd4800+, 4gig, windows x64, asus deluxe sli board. the 8800ultra is a beast of a card, had it bout 7months now, paid £500 for it, get it for under £300 now brand new. ive had it with these cards to be honest, the moment you buy a nice new beast of a thing a new comes out, before the 8800ultra i had an 7800gtx sli setup, that cost £600 for the two cards, still have them good cards, just refuse to sell them, because they worth probably £60each.
