creative
about time! Its a start and lets hope it can carry some momentum.. fuel protests linky
jevansio
Surely momentum is one thing they don't want as they want to stay still
Whitesupraboy2
can only take up inside lane and have to stay above 40mph. Not even allowed to protest properly
creative
now cardiff truckers have stated that they will blockade the refineries if nothing is done. and the cops have threatened them with arrest if they do...
ManwithSupra
Its about time somthing started to happen perhaps this will make others do the same, fuel prices are stupid at the moment and its not the oil companies its all the fuel duty and tax on top of that !!....im suprised that this had not happened earlier to be honest... It used to cost me Upwards of £450 a month in my supe to get to work, now i have bought a runabout it costs me around £240 a month ... which is still way to much. The funny thing is they say use public transport .... i would if it didnt cost me £280 a month (£40 more than my runabout per month which still works out more expensive even with car tax and insurance) and was more reliable. Why would i choose to spend more money on public transport that is usualy late!
JODY T
if they arrest ALL the truckers, there will be no one to move the goods so i suppose thatll get the desired effect.. also can you see the police arresting ALL the truckers if enough of them come out of the woodwork? Itll sure be funny to watch.
tbourner
That's not good is it: The protest comes as Chancellor Alistair Darling prepares for a meeting next week with Labour MPs concerned about plans to increase road tax on older, more polluting vehicles. That means Supras then.
Rob
Who reckons that blocking fuel supplies will be re-classed as an act of terrorism, very shortly?
Muffleman
Who reckons that blocking fuel supplies will be re-classed as an act of terrorism, very shortly? Would sure make it easier than having to go and catch real criminals
Mike M
That's not good is it: That means Supras then. I thought that too but from what I read its going to be on cars from 2001.
johnny g
So that means my bimmer then ...
keancy
It's all very well but will it achieve anything? It isn't just the Fuel prices that are killing us but the price of living full stop. I could buy my groceries 6 months ago for £100 quid now the exact same amount of stuff is costing me £130 - £140 a week. How long can people sustain this kind of battering until they are so far in debt they lose everything they have?
Bobbeh
I thought that too but from what I read its going to be on cars from 2001. Yeah you are correct, so no Supras affected other than those imported post 2001.
keancy
Yeah you are correct, so no Supras affected other than those imported post 2001. Yeah but no but. There was a large thread about this earlier this year and someone said it had nothing to do with what year the car was imported but the date of manufacture of the car?? Which is right? Bobbeh
Dont know for sure.. I think its a case for cars made 2001 and after as they have the emissions data for those vehicles. I'll be hit with my Civic.. but I dont know if I'll benefit or lose from it as its only a 1.4. I saw some of the lorries queuing on the A1 this morning, funny to witness it in person.. not so much for the chumps stuck on the other side of the road! ivan
Who reckons that blocking fuel supplies will be re-classed as an act of terrorism, very shortly?I thought they already had done just that? That's how they can threaten the protesters with arrest.
Ark
fuel protests linky Oh my God - Jack Straw must be double jointed to be able to get his foot quite so far into his mouth (last line of the linked page): Justice Secretary Jack Straw told the BBC he "fully understood" the hauliers' concerns, but "government revenues have to come from somewhere". Matt H
It all stems back to imigration.... oops they we go
Bobbeh
Yeah, blame the immigrants for everything, they're responsible for the bad weather this country has too Had better not let the gf see this, she's an immigrant too!
ozz
Good luck to them I say but its difficult to see what good it will do. Police have told them not to go into the city centre, only a small amount of vehicles are allowed to enter the carpark they are heading for, they can go no slower than 40mph and only use 1 lane of the M4. One they reach Magor they must turn around and go back. The police goal - to minmise disruption to people and business - kinda takes the meaning of protest away methinks. Its laughable really when I think about it - the majority of the M4 around there is reduced to 50MPH anyway due to massive roadworks so queues are always present! johnny g
It's symbolic of just how "f'd off" people are.
JamesC
It's all very well but will it achieve anything? Not for the general public. Hauliers want an "essential user" duty rebate on fuel of between 20p and 25p a litre to ease competition with foreign haulage companies. colsoop
I wish they would band together and stop the crappy reserved protesting that they normally do, whats the point of a go slow in to London. Isn't go slow the norm to travel in to London anyway. I really can't see how the police could arrest 600 + truckers and have the facilities to hold them all, they couldn't. Get the ports blocked.
