Stock Traction Control

Hi all,

I've been noticing this 3 times now. If I floor it in 2nd & 3rd ( i don't floor it in 1st) all the way up to 90-95 ... I loose traction .. the backend is skipping and fishtailing. It's only when I've changed into 4th does the back-end settle. I've even done a donut .. with the traction control on.

The Slip-Conf light appears on the dash .. but it doesn't appear to be cutting power (no doubt a blessing!)

Stock TC can't be that shit .. that it simply doesn't work .. can it ?

My ABS is working .. as I did an emergency stop, the ABS light lit up and no wheel-lock, no smoke from the tyres.

I eventually plan on getting RLTC - but I'm wondering if there is anything that RLTC uses that Stock TC also uses (except the ABS sensors)

Any ideas ?

Cheers!

RLTC doesn't use anything apart from the ABS sensors (and the RPM signal from the ECU, but that'l be ok). It could be the connection to the trac control butterfly at the front of the throttle body I suppose, but I would have thought that would light a warning light if it was dodgy.

Normally the stock one doesn't do much until it detects a lot of slip, when it cuts pretty much all power for a few seconds.

yep when the stock t/c cuts in you know about it, its like hitting a brick wall, i found it particularly amusing when quickly pulling out of a junction into traffic and half way through the manouvre WHAM no power, it dont sound like its working on your car if you find out why post it up you lucky bugger as i have to turn mine off everytime i get in the car, get RLTC it will be the best mod you ever do

You will find that if you keep your foot floored and don't back of, the traction control will allow progressive controled excelleration, but if you hold same throttle or back of all power is cut. Supra's will do a sortof donut with traction on, will also tail and pull, with traction on, if you keep applying more throttle. Both my Supras have worked like this, but to be honest, keep it off all the time.

So in order to use the RLTC does one need to switch off the stock TC or does the RLTC OVERIDE the stock TC?

you dont have to turn the stock t/c off with the rltc if you have it on the wet or dry setting as the rltc senses the slip along time before that, if the rltc is set at 10 -15 you have to turn it off or the stock may cut in, there is a way of disabling the stock t/c on a manual satisfactorily (i think) but on an auto it mess's the throttle up when changing gear, i was going to ask some of our electronic gurus at work how to make a circuit that would switch the stock off everytime you start the engine but never got round to it, just in the habit of turning it off before going into "combat"

The stock Traction system threw me all over the road once when it kicked in, scared the hell out of me, I think it was a result of the tyres re-finding grip, then sudden increased traction on the road caused a huge jolt. Now I run RLTC and if you forget to turn of the stock it deffinitely inteferes with the operation of the racelogic (no matter what anyone says). I've noticed sometimes the slip light flickers even when you have the stock turned off and your giving it some with RLTC on.

On the ABS matter, I might be wrong here but I thought the light was only supposed to come on if there was a fault. I had to slam on in the wet the other day and I could feel the ABS system working, dont recall any warning lights on (startup test is fine), however, I do recall shi**ing myself, so maybe it was an oversight on my behalf!

Same happened to me a couple of weeks ago on a roundabout, I wasn't going that quick neither. Gave me a fright, hit my head on the side window aswell. Must have been something on the road , I know the roundabout well and it was dry.

Sounds like what happened to me, I think when the stock system activates, because it isn't progressive, traction snaps back and you get huge over compensation as grip returns...

Great post people....very helpful so far

How can one be sure that the RLTC is working.....are there any lights anywhere to notify you.

How can one be sure that it is setup properly.

How does one engage launch control..

the more details the merrier.

Yes, there's a diagnostic LED and a diagnostic plug you plug in the serial port. It flashes various things like RPM and individual wheel speeds depending on the selector knob position. Most people hide it out the way though. You can also use the logging on the setup software on a laptop to log how much cut it's applying, what the wheel speeds are etc.

Use the PC based software on a laptop to see what the settings are. You really need to download a better settings file anyway to get the best out of it.

How does one engage launch control..

Press the big green button, then floor the accelerator. The RLTC keeps the revs at a predefined rev limit that you can set from the software or manually. You then feed in the clutch and off you go.
