Offset question + brembo calipers

Am i right in thinking that a low offset wheel i.e. et35mm will give better caliper clearance than a higher offset wheel i.e. et50mm?? Just spoke to elite alloys who said that is correct but its difficult to get my head around as im not sure whether the backspace of the wheel is adjusted or the mounting face is increased/decreased to adjust offset on wheels?? any help please??

thank Nic, any idea of what kind of offset is needed to clear brembo 4 pots assuming the width is 8.5"?? (from surface of disc to face of caliper depth is 57mm)

Which wheels, it will vary depending on the wheel design?

Brembo should have a cross sectional diagram of the calipers available which will help work out the offset needed.

Which Brembo brakes do you have fitted? If you let me know disc size and caliper model I'll send you a template.

these ones here Nic:

ive been doing some reading this afternoon and the general idea is that offset has no bearing on caliper clearance, it simply moves the wheel in or out effectively. the "X-factor" as its known is dependant on the type of wheel and the spoke configuration in relation to the mounting surface...if you could get a template that would be great buddy

As you have the calipers the best thing to do is simply slide the caliper over the disk and measure up what clearance you have or try and see if a uk wheel will fit then you know that any wheel that clears uk calipers will clear yours.

im too lazy :D

ive ordered some bbs lm's in 19" already and witht he fronts being et35mm they will hit them. If i use hubcentric spacers then they will protude outta the arches and look shite BUT if i get them in et45mm and then use hubcentric spacers to clear the calipers, they should sit nice and flush. not sure whether wheels are machined on the mounting face side to adjust offset or the whole spoke assembly is moved in or out?!
