Bryan_Jones
I have a quick shift box put on my Supra. It was there when I bought it, but it's never been very smooth. It clunks into second almost every time and to get it in reverse you need two hand to pull it well over to the right. All the other gears seem fine. The car has only done 54k miles so the gearbox should be fine. Can you adjust the quck shift part? Is it worth me trying to get an original gear stick and bracket? Should only be 4 bolts to remove it. Or should I think about getting another quick shift. Either way it's starting to get on my nerves driving around town clunking everytime I pull away from a junction. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. tooquicktostop
I have yet to see a quick shift that is just that on a stock 6 speed box, the Getrag is cluncky at the best of times and if anything a longer gear stick helps with changes IMO, I would go back to stock
Bryan_Jones
Ok. I just hope if I go through the trouble of going back to stock that it won't be a waste of time as the stick is just out of adustment.

Bryan_Jones
Well is it worth getting a 2nd hand stock box or going all out and getting a new one?
Bryan_Jones
I've contacted Jezz about one 2nd hand, but he doesn't have one in. Anyone know where I can get hold of one?
garethr
Isn't the quick shift/short shifter just a replacement for the standard gear lever? No need to replace the gearbox, just the gear lever.
Nic
I've contacted Jezz about one 2nd hand, but he doesn't have one in. Anyone know where I can get hold of one? I could get new one if you don't find second hand.

No need to replace the gearbox, just the gear lever Yeah sorry, it's just the gear lever. Apparently it's just an attachement over the top of the original bracket. I could get new one if you don't find second hand. Ok, well at the moment I'm still going to look for a 2nd hand one, but could you pm me the price of a new one. Chris Wilson
What clutch are you running? A different ratio gear lever wont affect gear engagement in so far as crunching or baulking is concerned.
Terminator
If the shift is a as stiff as you say, it would certainly be worth getting a stock shifter. Having just partially rebuilt the shift mechanism on my box, it is apparent that all parts have to be in perfect alignment for smooth changes. Even a small amount of slack in any of the linkages or play in the bushes, will make changes difficult. The shifts are short enough, can't imagine why anyone would want to make them shorter. You may find that the changes would be smoother if you emptied all the gear box oil and refill with Toyota fluid. Homer
I had the same issue with a B&M short shifter kit. The linkages were made of poor material and wore out badly making it very hard to engage 1st, 2nd and reverse. The kit had also knackered all the stock shifter mechanism which resulted in having to repalce the entire system with new parts (about £190, plus fitting). However, after I sold the car the problems returned and it seems the aftermarket clutch is at fault due to the reground pressure plate Sadly, Chris Wilson was right all along with his diagnosis. Bryan_Jones
Well I know the clutch has been replaced about 6 months ago with a stock clutch. They removed a racing clutch as it was too heavy when used everyday. So I'm hoping it's not the clutch.
edge
Put some fresh oil in and go from there.
