kieren1234
Hi all, i have got an oil cooler ready to fit but it doesnt come with a thermostat. Is this completely neccesary or will the oil cooler still work ok without it. My main concern is that if i start the car with the oil cooler fitted but no thermostat. The oil will be too thick to pass trough the cooler and starve the engine of untill its hot?? Any advice appreciated.
bignum
Hi Kieren, the cooler will still work but the oil will take ages to get up to temperature which is as bad as the oil being to hot, oil needs to get to around 100 c to burn off moisture. Tricky-Ricky
It should be OK in the summer, but you really need to get a thermostat, as in the winter it will never reach an optimal operating temp.

Chris Wilson
I stock them. You should always use a stat on a road car with a none stock oil cooler. Biggest mistake though is to use a cooler and hoses with not enough flow, what size are the hoses and cooler fittings?
