Oil coolers....

Hi all, i have got an oil cooler ready to fit but it doesnt come with a thermostat. Is this completely neccesary or will the oil cooler still work ok without it.

My main concern is that if i start the car with the oil cooler fitted but no thermostat. The oil will be too thick to pass trough the cooler and starve the engine of untill its hot??

Any advice appreciated.

I stock them. You should always use a stat on a road car with a none stock oil cooler. Biggest mistake though is to use a cooler and hoses with not enough flow, what size are the hoses and cooler fittings?
