Ark
I stripped my interior on Sunday, and made an interesting discovery: factory standard bolt points for a race harness...or at least something too much like it to be a coincidence. Looks like an M12 or M14 (I didn't measure) in the rear bulkhead behind the back seat, normally covered by the plastic cubbyhole arrangement, and pre-cut slots in the boot carpet to match. Given the discussions I've read on the topic, how come nobody has ever noticed these before?
Rob
Ain't not never seen nothing like that before not neither. Are you sure it wasn't a previous (highly skilled) owner?
Ark
Nope, the car had never been tracked before I had it - standard seats and belts. Plus the carpet slots are cut in a curve, with reinforcement and a bridge (I don't know the right word, the remaining bit of material in a perforated sheet) at the apex. The bolt points are properly welded and painted. Really doesn't look like after-market work. I wonder if it's a previously un-discovered facelift featurette. Homer
I've seen these on both my Supra's, one even had a hoop fitted and the aftermarket harnesses connect up to it perfectly. The holes in the carpet didn't seem to line up with them though!

Chris Wilson
Aren't they for rear lap belts for the US market?
Ark
Bit high to be lap belts...you'll see what I mean when I get around to putting up the pic.
Ark
Pic, as promised. This is looking towards the rear of the car, with the interior stripped out.
Trig
would i be able to hook both thh rear harnesses onto one eye bolt or do they need separate ones?
Ark
Yeah, sorry that's just the drivers side. It's the exact mirror on the passenger side, so one mount point is available per harness. You really don't want to mount a harness off at a weird angle.
Trig
thats perfect
Chris Wilson
Aren't they for the Aerotop reinforcements bits of tin?
Ark
I don't remember seeing them on my old aerotop...it's certainly not for the roof clips. And the slots in the carpet wouldn't make sense.
Homer
They're not for the aerotop mounting plates, they're in a different place. Just checked the hooks on mine and it looks like they're aftermarket afterall, they are in the top of the support bar, but the holes you pictures are in the same place. Homer
Just had a thought - could they be for securing the stock sub?
Trig
Just had a thought - could they be for securing the stock sub? would that mean you couldnt use it as a eye bolt fastening position?
Homer
would that mean you couldnt use it as a eye bolt fastening position? You probably could, but the steel there looks a bit thin and unsupported to mount a seatbelt harness too.
