bolarbag
When the thermostat is shut restricting/preventing flow from the feed, does it have a bypass for the return? I'd like to put one in my oil cooling system but wonder if the oil thermostat is closed I would then have a blockage, how would that work if I was taking the feed from the return of the oil filter? It would pretty much have no where to go, so I'd have a restriction and a my oil would flow back on itself, I'm using a HKS oil take off plate, to a relocated oil filter housing, I interpret it as the relocated housing has 2take off's to route to the oil cooler, one feed and return, the return to the block is the is the same return from the oil cooler - the oil cooler is fed from the return of the filter, so all oil has to go through the oil cooler at the mo, if I put one of these Mocal Thermostats in line with the feed and return from the oil cooler then I can let my oil heat to 80C then let the oil cool in the oil cooler, but if there is no bypass in the thermostat then I have a blockage til 80C would I be right? I need to get new AN fittings for the lines so I may aswell do this while its out, I may have a thermostat in the oil filter housing from HKS already, I cant check just now its at home and I'm in the office, it looks something like this http://www.racerpartswholesale.com/images/large/MOC-SP1GT.jpg Although, as its a relocated housing it has another two AN feeds to go to the oil cooler, it has that black bolt on the side - is this the thermostat? If so where do you get replacements?
bolarbag
In fact forgot I'd put these up, pics of the setup here, http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=148713&highlight=HKS+Oil+Cooler This was for sale but one of the fittings snapped while i was taking it off so I'm just going to re-use most of the kit and buy a new 16row Setrab core, and re-use the old core as a power steering cooler as its in good condition(Its a 10row) It looks like the oil filter housing does have a thermostat as shown here, http://file043b.bebo.com/2/large/2008/04/27/22/1339967026a7580186859l.jpg anyone know where to get replacements? SUPRASUZUKI
What's this, A level fluid dynamics? Can you do a schematic layout to make it easiier to understand? The black cap on the sandwich plate holds the spring and thermostatic valve in place. Not sure on replacements but Thinkauto might help - http://www.thinkauto.com.:)
Mike M
The cooler will connect to one side of the stat and the normal path for the oil i'e Inlet & Return will be on the other side of the stat. Basically it'll start opening up oil to the cooler once its upto the temp setpoint. When cold it'll just by-pass the cooler returning oil to the engine. bolarbag
Yeah, so this must have a routing to bypass the two AN lines on the right hand side, if the thermostat is closed?

Pretty sure thats how it'll work.
