Stuliet
Over the past few weeks I have been getting an increasing amount of smoke from my Supra, and had booked it in to be looked at in a couple of weeks. Today on the way to work, I got a LOT of smoke and a whine whenever I accelerate. I am assuming the worst, and the turbos have expired. I am taking the car to ToyotaGT later this week for an official diagnosis, but I have limited expectations. So, what are my options? It is a UK car with Hybrid turbos. I do not have unlimited £££ so I guess my choices are either to return to standard UK turbos or get replacement Hybrids. Any opinions? Luxluc
I had my Supra at Whifbitz for single turbo conversion 6 weeks ago and let the OEM Euro-spec turbos at Paul's ... give a mail to Paul to see if he still has them. PHR stage
Stuliet
I have been mulling over options and after a chat with James at ToyotaGT I am considering going to a small single. I am thinking of the PHR Stage 1 Single Turbo Kit. Bearing in mind I have a UK spec, so bigger injectors, etc are there any other essential mods for reliability? I am not interested in creating a beast of a car, but it is a keeper so I am happy to upgrade parts over time as £ permit. -- Stuart

Stuliet
I am looking to make this a 'project' car for me and intend to keep it for a while so am happy to spend on it. The blown turbos are bringing my plans forward a little, but I don't really want to spend a lot of £ on a path with limited future proof for upgrades. I guess I am looking for a 'value for money' replacement with scope, rather than a 'cheap' option.

To do a single conversion 'properly' you'd be looking at £8K+
Stuliet
After a bit more investigation, I have found this thread that shows what various people would recommend in terms of a minimum spec to go single; http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=71083 So, I have the following list of parts as my minimum; PHR Stage 1 kit New SMIC (maybe part of the NIC group buy) AEM ECU FPR Auto cooler Engine oil cooler Gauges - Note sure what I need but am thinking AFR and EGT. Plus fitting and also RR mapping once complete. Given I already have UK brakes and H&R Coilover suspension, I am hoping no further chassis changes are needed. Anything else that I need? All my opinion of course transmission £2-3,000 injectors - flow tested and fitted 550's minimum cams makes sure brakes, suspension etc is up to the power and replace worn stock parts....pumps, radiator etc and budget at least 2k for your standalone setup as there will always be niggles AEM wideband, boost gauge essential depending on power levels I would prob opt for a built engine as well if over 500bhp and your planning on running high boost so thats another 4-5k to add to your list this is all in my opinion so not essential if you dont want to do it. im just a firm believer in doing things thoroughly first time round and not cutting corners as you will only have problems further down the line Edited May 23, 2008 by mikeyb10supra (see edit history)
