Pabs
Hey all, I've got one of those shiny/chrome FAN shroud / cover / guard on my car, but when I try and fit the standard airbox feed from the front of the car to the airbox location, it doesn't seem to fit? Is this the case with all aftermarket fan guards? Ideally I want to be able to route a decent cold air feed to the filter, so if this won't fit then has anyone else come up with a custom feed to the filter? If you want pics, check out my garage - but I'm sure you all know what I'm on about. Thanks
colsoop
I assume it is one of mine ? Unfortunately the oem feed doesn't fit anymore. Do you still have the headlight duct ? How about routing some brake ducting hose up in to the box from under the car ? Do you have an fmic cover too ? I may be wrong but i assumed the oem ducting used air coming up through that gap. Pabs
hi mate, Not sure if it is one of yours or not - it's Paul E's old car, and the fan guard has some japanese symbols on it (no idea what they mean tho!!!) I wasn't aware that the standard box had another air feed into it - I'll have to check. I've got an induction kit on the car, but want to get a cold air feed to it because I don't think it can be getting much air at the moment! I've got some of the ali ducting which I may use if I need to, I was just trying to use the oem stuff if I could. Cheers
colsoop
Yep it is one of mine. You should be able to see if you have the oem airbox duct under the headlight.
Pabs
You don't know what the japanese symbols mean, do you? Just want to make sure it's not something like - "watch out - tw*t driving" lol Both headlights are out at the moment, and I can't see any ducting - where abouts under the O/S headlight would it be? In the wing? I've got my SMIC down there, and can't really see where it would run. I do have some heat-shielding around the filter, I don't expect it does much but I think it should help a bit. No idea on the symbols. The ducting sits under the headlight above the smic, it should be fairly obvious to see.
Pabs
Got it mate - thanks for that. Not sure where the air comes from as it seems to sit right behind the bumper under the headlight - I suppose with a stock bumper it might be different.... I'm going to have to come up with some idea for a better air feed I think. Cheers
colsoop
buy a cheap air temp gauge to measure before and after you add ducting to see if it makes a difference

I'm assuming there is a sensor in the intake system somewhere that is needed?
colsoop
I just bought a battery operated gauge from Maplins (i think) i only wanted to test airbox temps on mine so nothing fancy was required.
