Matt Harwood
Can anyone tell me if there is something I need to do to reset my stock TC system. I had a TC butterfly removal kit on the car which I've just changed over to a normal one with butterfly. Problem is, I'm still getting all the warning lights flashing as if it wasn't there. I've tried disconnecting the battery but that didn't work. Is there a reset like the airbag reset or similar?
Terminator
It may be that the sensor side of the stock butterfly is not in the right place so the system does not know it is there. The sensor mechanism should be under tension when the system if off ie fully open.
Matt Harwood
There is a few degrees of adjustment on the actuator, I tried it at maximum, minimum and a few positions in between. I even got someone to move it while the engine was running... No good. The lights still flash. I'm guessing that something needs resetting, shorting a couple of pins somewhere or something... What happens if you take the TRAC relay out, just disable the system all together.
Matt Harwood
Havn't tried that yet. - I'll give that a go tomorrow. Someone on Supraforums has told me to reset the ecu. I would have thought disconnecting the battery would do the same thing but I'll try it anyway.
Ian C
Oh, heavens, I forgot to warn you how arcane this thing is. Does it sit there going 'click click click' about eleven times when you start the car? I've never nailed down geting this to work, but it can happen. Try both extremes of adjustment, but you have to have it right first go when you start the car. Any changes made once it's made up it's mind things are wrong are fruitless. It's a PITA because you have to muck around so much between each test. I've found mine just started working overnight, so there may be something to do with the engine being switched off for a certain amount of time. Sorry I can't help more Oooh - I just remembered one bit, did you install the position sensor correctly? You have to put it on the two prongs at about 90degrees from where it should end up pointing, and 'wind' it round to the right place, so that the sensor is under tension against the butterfly. The prongs sit on the flats of the mechanism in the sensor. Does that make sense? -Ian
