Tricky-Ricky
It could just be that the battery has not got enough charge to turn the motor, the click noise is just the solenoid trying to engage the starter.
Guest jimmybeattie
yeah, thought about that. i charged the battery overnight and tried it again this morning. No change im afraid, still just a click then nothing.
TurboBrett
mine did this about 5 times after my bump a couple of days ago, put it in gear and rocked it back and fourth abit and fired up straight away, its never done it before
NeoMagic
Doesn't rule out the battery, try jump starting it off another car. If it’s a manual try bump starting it if any of the above are to of no avail. If you can bump start it its most likely the positive connector on the starter motor has snapped / popped off or the solenoid / starter faulty. Guest jimmybeattie
dash lights are all ok and everything else powers up ok. also its a automatic so dont think its possible to bump start?
TurboBrett
That will be loose battery terminals I expect, did the dash lights go out as well? the lights went out after the click but came back on straight away, battery connection have been checked, if it does it again i will investigate further, but my dad recons could be the start of the solenoid failing, they can get crapped up inside and dont make full contact or something, he used to run a business reconditioning alternators and starters, many many moons ago;) dash lights are all ok and everything else powers up ok. also its a automatic so dont think its possible to bump start? i have bumped an auto before a 12L plymouth, was tough work:D lol dunno about supra tho:(
TurboBrett
i would bet its the battery for you mate, a dud one can still give full voltage but not provide enough power to kick it over;)
Guest jimmybeattie
right, just jumped started the supra from my focus. took a couple of attempts and a pump or two of the accellerator but it started. run perfectly for about 10 mins and got it up to temperature, took it a wee spin round the block and then switched it off. tried to start it again and nothing apart from the click. sound like to batteries duff!? SILKYSMOOTH
right, just jumped started the supra from my focus. took a couple of attempts and a pump or two of the accellerator but it started. run perfectly for about 10 mins and got it up to temperature, took it a wee spin round the block and then switched it off. tried to start it again and nothing apart from the click. sound like to batteries duff!? I had the same problem with my supe, sounds exactly the same, I changed the starter motor and bobs your uncle fixed the problem. You can buy a refurb kit for around £20 or you can get a good second hand one for £50 like I did from a member on here. They are quite easy to change. P.S I doubt it's the battery. Try turning the ignition with the lights on and see if they dim, also try the horn with the ignition on, if it sounds dull then it's your battery if not then its definately the starter motor if all terminals are fitted properly. http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=135139&page=2 Edited May 16, 2008 by SILKYSMOOTH (see edit history)

Guest jimmybeattie
got a brand new battery today, stuck it in car and no change!
Rob
Starter motor refurb kit required. Single click = starter motor fail, mulitple little clicks = dead battery. Get a set of wobble bars first, I did it without and it was a reet pig. I'll find the link to a comprhensive thread. edit: http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=51682&highlight=starter+motor+refurb
