Guest mhd212
:blink:Hi guys, This is my first participation in the fourm. I recently bought a modified supra. Previous owner claimed that it can make around 850 WHP. What I want to understand is what those pipes and wires in the fuel tank... See the attached pics and please lead me through understanding this complicated thing. Thanks, Mohd
Tricky-Ricky
Hi and welcome, the canister in the back is a surge tank to stop air being pumped through to the injectors, not a good thing on a high power motor, it should also have two pumps in the fuel tank, and looking at the turbo it could well be making 850BHP, looks well set up. Alex
Looks like you have 2x #6/8 lines and a single return....but they didn't rip out the old original lines...nothing really amiss there. The tank is a Swirl Pot for the fuel system, basically it fills up and then the fuel goes on from there to the rail. It all looks quite messy to me and I would think you could ditch the swirl pot and clean things up if you wanted... The turbo looks to be an old GReddy T78/88 the 78 wouldn't be capable of 850hp but the 88 would.
Guest mhd212
thanks Alex. Yea, The ride has a modified T88 34D, with bigger AR, 1000cc injectors, 2 in tank Walbro pumps and 2 Bosch pumps under the car!!, custom 4 inch DP/MP and custom 4 inch intercooler, MOTEC M600, modified defrential, Gredddy intake and CP pestons and meny other stuff. This what I was told by the old owner... how much HP this ride can make and what will be the next step u recommend?

Thanks Trick Ricky. What is ment by not good for high power motor? Should I do somthing about the fuel system or its Ok? Recomendations are welcomed.. Tricky-Ricky
Sorry if that comment was confusing, what i meant is that surge tanks/swirl pots are usually used on high HP applications, to stop the fuel system picking up air caused by high acceleration, ie drag racing, also track work where high G forces are encountered, they make sure that there is always fuel to be pumped to the fuel rail, there is usually an external pump between the tank and fuel rail, can see one on yours? As you can imagine if the pump picks up some air along with the fuel and pumps it to the injectors while on full boost, you could end up with a wrecked motor due to lean mixture/detonation. Guest mhd212
I have seen 2 external pumps under the car but not in between the tank and the swirl pot. Is that appropriate?
Tricky-Ricky
There will be two pumps in the fuel tank, and then the two pumps you can see, which pump from the swirl pot to the fuel rail, which is as it should be:)
Guest mhd212
How much HP this fuel system can handle you think??
Homer
How much HP this fuel system can handle you think?? Depends on the injectors, rail, ECU, fuel lines sizes, filters, etc... More info and pics needed really. The swirl pot itself doesn't mean it's capable of more power it's just a safety modification to ensure the fuel supply is constant. However, if someone has gone to the lenghts of installing one it's more than likely going to be a capable setup
Chris Wilson
How much HP this fuel system can handle you think?? Depends on what flow the high pressure pumps under the car will flow at injector pressure. I'd say it's more than adequate unless any of the pumps are tiny. I'd keep the swirl pot myself. Don't like the way the lines near the tank are a bit crimped by too tight a bend radius, proper Aeroquip wouldn't do that, the lines are cheap galvanised steel braid over rubber, they may even break down internally with modern unleaded through them. Keep an eye on them, and the filters.
Guest mhd212
Thanks Chris, Maybe those line are the cause of fuel smell in the car. Can you please recommend a proper kind of lines and from where can I buy them..
Chris Wilson
Can't say I am too familiar with motorsport suppliers in Oman, but anywhere that sells Earls, Aeroquip or XRP hoses will sort you out (for a price...).
bluecoup
dont like the cable tie on a fuel pipe
Guest mhd212
Bluecoup, Thanks for the comment. Actually that was done by me which can reflect my shallow knowledge about fuel systems….
bluecoup
might be a low pressure return ? but for a 50p jubilie clip
Guest mhd212
Guys, Can 1000 cc injectors handel gt Series turbos? Do I need bigger injectors than the 1000cc to maximize the t88 HP?
