Sent my road tax letter to the DVLA...

Hi all, after trying and trying to get hold of the road tax branch i got so p*ssed off that i decided to write a letter complaining about why my road tax is

higher than everybody else's!

I said to them that i don't feel it's fair that two supra's bought in the same year and same late-model '97-'98 and bought in 2007 can have two different road tax rates!

One owner for instance bought his supra last year and is paying £115.00 for 6 months and i think £220.00 for 12 months...

On the other hand, having bought my Supra in the same year, im having to fork out £220.00 for 6 months and something like £400.00 for 12 months!

I said to them, tell how that works and why there is such a big difference in the road tax ruling in two identical model cars made in the same year and both

bought in 2007?!

I am now waiting for a reply and i'll let you all know what the DVLA have said (providing they reply at all!)

road tax branch

I think Road Tax in any of its forms is a complete rip off, but completly Off Topic, googling 'road tax branch', brings this up as the 9th image...

http://www.redlinesportscars.com/images/cars/MWW553Klarge.jpg

1971 'K' Marcos 3.0 litre Coupe Classic Car 3.0 Litre Straight 6 Cylinder Volvo engine, 4 speed gearbox with overdrive, Chrome Yellow paintwork, Black interior, Black carpets, Matching black dashboard with original instruments with chrome bezels, Wabasto sunroof, electric windows, adjustable pedals, stereo system, stainless steel exhaust, original Cosmic alloy wheels, road tax exempt, This car is in very nice condition and is in the final stages of being properly sorted out ourselves, the car will shortly have a new MOT. A rare chance to aquire a rare sought after classic Marcos car.

That car's sold sadly, but they do have a 1997 Marcos Mantis Spyder for £18500 which does look rather nice :)

1997 'R' Marcos Mantis Spyder

4.6 Litre Quad Cam V8 engine, 350 bhp. 5 speed gearbox, BMW Oxford Green metallic paintwork, black leather interior, Green carpets, air conditioning, power steering, elm veneer dashboard with black instruments, electric windows/pedals/mirrors, adjustable steering wheel, stereo system, alarm/immobiliser, lined black hood & tonneau cover, matching rear spoiler, Racing brakes with 6 pot calipers, Racing exhaust system, Racing suspension, 18" Gold Dymag Racing alloy wheels, An interesting example of this very fast rare car, please call now to avoid disappointment.

(At least it was an informative wildly off topic post, better than what most of you jokers put ;) :p)

Yeh i know but the point is Dazzi, why hasn't it happened to anyone else with other model's made in '97-'98 and bought in the same year (2007)??

Because there weren't any mate ;)

... or they were done the sneaky way bypassing the test.. but that costs a lot. TBH I don't know of any other >97 Supra registered in the last year.

P1sses me off that I have to tax the 405 and the Supra even though I can only drive one or the other at any one time.

On a brighter note, just paid the road tax on my wife's Clio -- £35 for 12 months.

I don't bother with taxing the bike (track only).

i rang DVLA y/day (go through on the local office number its quicker) and they told me the new thing doesnt start until April 09.

so i checked and said if my tax is due 1st June 08 and i tax it for a year it'll still be old rates and she confirmed....

...strange

Guest Angry Koala

ESVA testing for CO2 is only undertaken on cars manufactured post 01/01/1997 according to the DVLA themselves......

As I understand it the wording on the V5 is "declared manufactured 19XX", is that correct? They don't actually require you to prove the date of manufacture, just to declare it to the best of your knowledge......

So, send your V5 back to the DVLA as a "change to vehicle details" saying it was only when your wife/mother/girlfriend pointed it out that you noticed they had your 1996 car registered as a 1998, how very odd, and please could they correct this oversight.....and also once this is corrected can they remove the CO2 figure from the records as this obviously will no longer apply....

Or do you think they know who you are now and it's too late?! :D

Oh and I never suggested this at all, I'm sure it's very naughty if not downright illegal!!
