colsoop
How much fab work is required to put the 3sgte in to a Supra ?
bolarbag
I reckon custom engine mounts - wouldnt be very hard to do if you were a skilled welder/cnc machinest and a custom bell housing?
jevansio
A 2.2 503E for me please. Toysport sell them don't they?
michael
Toysport sell them don't they? They used to, would be a lot of fun, even in the relatively low "600bhp endurance racing tune"
dangerous brain
Or just buy an early NSX?

grahamc
Some previous discussions: http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=84640&highlight=3sgte http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=17270&highlight=3sgte http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=77110&highlight=3sgte http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=127175&highlight=3sgte This is something that I was (am again) considering doing... As a supra track car. Just need to start figuring out how much its going to cost
Sean1933
There is one of these in my town that has been up for sale for a while. I randomly met the new owner of it at Tesco the other day and got chatting. I knew more about it than he did . It looked like a bit of a thrown together example but apparently it went well, and has run 11's at pod. He paid £6.5K for it, however im not sure what gearbox it g/box it had in it (was a manual though). I 100% agree with TLicense on this, if i was building an all out track supra this is the way i would go about it. Lighter engine stroked to 2.2 pushing a responsive 500BHP and a fully stripped out shell would go very well in the corners with the right suspension setup. The better, lower centre of gravity and weight distribution of nigh on 50/50 would put alot of 4wd cars to shame.
jevansio
For me it boils down to money, 500bhp 2JZ = heavier but is going to take the abuse much longer than a 500bhp 3S, I know which I'd feel more content driving to trackdays across the country. Asking a true 500 from a 3S lap after lap, day after day is IMHO gonna cost.

I went to see that car and it was a wreck, overspray, mis-aligned panels, etc, etc, etc. Engine also looked very sloppy!

bondango
A 2.2 503E for me please. Yep it was the 503E that was used in the IMSA GTO/GTP and Japan Touring car supras and IIRC the TS supra, similar in design to the 3sgte but no parts interchangeable. Someone did do a 3sgte conversion, i posted up a link to it as it was for sale, but in all honesty it didnt look to great a job. Ask any mr2 tubby or gt4 owner how hard/expensive it is to get 450+ reliably out of a 3sgte Now for me, if you want to go 4 pot - then i would be looking at the 3sgte Beams turbo'd, mated with the 6 speed box, we have quite a few chasers over here running 500+ on that engine, and its packaged similarly to the 3sgte but dos'nt have the same longtitudual (sp) mounting problems that the 3sgte has, remember the older 3s is designed to mount in FW location at 30 degrees so requires modding the lube system. tDR
3S-GTE @ 500bhp = cracked blocks ahoy. Been there, done that with my bro's ST205. Give me a 2JZ-GTE any day of the week, far less hassle.
