My Nurburg Trip......

Suprash

Recommended Posts

Well I went to the Nurburgring with a local car forum that Gaz6002 has set up with a friend. There was about 8 cars, 2 Supra's, 1 RX7, 1 Lotus Elise, 1 new MR2, 1 S2000, 2 Golfs. What an amazing experience that place is, car after car of decent metal, not one shit box. We would sit on the Balcony at night and see Porsche after Porsche drive past, and not the normal road going Porsche, but the RS track jobbie, they were as comman as muck out there lol.

Anyway the day started with me being up at 6 for a 12 hour day shift before getting home and leaving later that night, the plan was to leave about 2 in the morning. After GrahamS on here was doing a pad change except that pad change nearly made me not make the trip at all, as the rear pins were seized in there in a herculean way, so much so that after my car still being sat on Grahams drive around 22:00 we decided to steel JustGav's J-Spec rear calipers and swap them with my UK's as they were better then no rear calipers at all after we had bashed the life out of the pins, so anyway 12:00 came after already a very long day and I was finally backing the Supra off Grahams drive, I owe both them men a beer....;) Thanks guys you really did save my trip that night.......

So after getting ferries, driving across, stops at several service stations and a few car issues along the way and a 150mph blat with two Audi RS4's, we never arrived in Nurburg until about 17:00 the following day, by that point I had been awake around 36 hours and driven 400 odd mile so a good beer or two was needed by that time and a meal, even though I still ended up staying up till 02:00 that morning drinking making my total awake time 44 hours, and I can tell you now that amount of time coupled with a few beers and a smoke, makes your eyes see things, who needs hard drugs lol.....

So Saturday came, all a lot more refreshed after 6 hours kip and back up for 08:00, how I did that I dont know, but it was only because from our apartments you could see the track so every morning we were woken up by the sound of cars blatting past your front window, how excellent is that :D But Saturday they had some race on and the track was only open for 2 hours at the end of the day and due to queues I wasnt able to get on there....:( So it was a case of back home and carry on with the beers to which there was a whole incident at the resturaunt we went to, involving Gaz steeling a glass and them holding my wallet hostage until either the glass or 30 euros was given to them lol.....but after drinking that evening and again not getting to bed until 02:00 Im really surprised things werent catching up with me, but it must have been the buzz and adrenalin as I would have never done that at home lol....

So Sunday comes, full day of racing, so after setting up the cameras again, off we go......

So I gets to the ring entrance puts my ticket in the barrier and off we go, now Im taking the first lap like my gran, you have no appreciation for the tracks gradiants on the PS2/3/xbox and just looking at the section of track from our window, and after seeing car after car come off, I wanted to see before I raced, so let that Mondeo and works van blast past me.....

2nd lap was a lot more enjoyable, 3rd I was just starting to smile everywhere and hurt the brakes, bless them, I swear they were starting to cook, especially with my UK front and J-Spec rear setup lol. By the 4th lap I was whizzing around, well it felt like it, actually having a play with one or two cars now, them being quicker through the turns, so up my arse trying to get around the left side of me then the right, and then me leaving them by several lengths once out of the corner thanks to the Supra's beef that was clearly making me look good lol.....then the track gets closed for a couple of hours due to a biker being killed, it re-opned up for enough time for one more lap.......and then home for some more celebratery beers......

Then Monday came and after another 02:00 finish the night before, depsite the fact I wanted to try and squeeze a few more laps in before we left, I was just too tired, I refused to wake up and our room eventually got up about 09:30, we had to be on the road by 10/11'ish, so it was a case of get packed up and leave.....so after leaving and tonning it all the way from Nurburg to Calais in like just under 4hrs, we was on the ferry and hit the UK for about 17:50, which I then drove home to B/Stoke and hit town at about 18:35 which scheduled me nicely to go straight into work for 19:00 and a 12 hour night shift as Im due back.

I tell you its not easy trying to deal with work when your still buzzing from a mad 3 days like that.......

Also I never noticed until I got back into the UK how bad our roads are compared to the german autobahns, belguim and even the french roads.

This is a trip that I have wanted to do for a few years now, but never got round to it, my advice to anyone that that sounds familiar to, go, straight away, I was so blown away by the place, not just the ring, the scenary, the cars, the roads around the town, just amazing, pure car sex.......

Good spots for the 3 days, 3 Audi R8's, Kermet's green Supra, 1 orange , 1 black, 1 dark red Supra.

More pics and video to come but until the others get back in 2 days time Im stuck with just this one photo that I managed to find on the net, if anyone knows of any good photo hosting sites that might have copies of us on there, please point them out ;)

Gaz, Aachen is 25mins down the road from me. If I can help in any way, let me know. If you need a place to crash or would like any help getting your supra back to the UK, maybe I can help. Are you sure it's the connectors? I have six of the connector inserts I ordered from Toyota down in the basement. Hit me back.

On a serious note, yeah my car is in a Toyota garage in Aachen, Germany. Nurburgring 2, Gaz nil.

I'm thinking about buying a TVR now.

Your car was unreliable so you're going to buy a TVR?

You've really got a thing for breakdown trucks, huh?

:D

Thanks mate I'll bear that in mind. One of the coil packs themselves has given up by the looks of it but the two connectors do need replacing as well.

This is how I see it: Toyotas are meant to be reliable. Mine aren't (this is my third high performance one). I think it's down to the cars not being designed for the abuse I give them, hence I want to buy a car that was designed to be fast as stock. The TVR ticks all the boxes (either Griffith or Cerbera) and I've read that if you look after them properly they aren't as bad as people say. Also, I'm getting a little bit bored of the Japanese tuning scene and fancy something a little different. Still, I will be getting the Supra running correctly first and then thinking about my options.

And yes, I LOVE breakdown trucks. Especially when it takes a company 10 hours to send one that works and they still manage to damage my bumper in the process.

Epic Fail on the recoverys behalf I feel....lol, what a great quote for the weekend that was.....FAIL. I dont think you should sell you know Gaz, not after all your efforts to get the car where it is now, and despite it not making it Nurburg like we was saying earlier you will get her back and it is only small issues, just small issues are big ones when your not in your own country...;)

We have lost an RX-7 now as well guys, half of the group were staying out there for 5 days and he twatted it on some armco. Bent wheels, front and rear bumpers, Im going out with a mate and a trailer to get him on Thursday, so I will be back at the ring lol.....
