I used to run a TRD cap on my old Mr2 turbo and it's still going strong with no problems. They allow the coolant to reach a higher pressure than the system is used to. paul mac Posted May 12, 2008 Share Posted May 12, 2008 i dont actually get what they do, to get water past 100 C you have to presurise it, so by letting it relieve at a higher pressure you are letting it get hotter ?, so the thermostat say opens at 82C so what is the point of presurising higher ? Chris Wilson Posted May 12, 2008 Share Posted May 12, 2008 The higher the pressure in the system the more overhead, temperature wise you get, befor it will boil. The Group A Cossie Sierra race cars used to pre charge the coolant to about 40 PSI, so when a head gasket went they had a fair amount of temp overhead and a back pressure to help stop gasses entering the coolant. I'd say unless you NEED to run more coolant pressure run a stock cap. Old cars don't like sudden rises in coolant system pressure, and we all know old heater matrices are prone to failing.
