Jim_1979
Do you cause any issues/problems when running with a high pressure rad cap?
JustGav
By all accounts yes... They have a habit of blowing older heatrix matrix cores...There is also no point in fitting one.
Jim_1979
Why would they cause older heater matrixes to blow? Also, why no point? I'm not being a tit here! Genuinley interested! I used to run a TRD cap on my old Mr2 turbo and it's still going strong with no problems.

On older cars that can highlight any developing weak spots by blowing them.

paul mac
i dont actually get what they do, to get water past 100 C you have to presurise it, so by letting it relieve at a higher pressure you are letting it get hotter ?, so the thermostat say opens at 82C so what is the point of presurising higher ? Chris Wilson
The higher the pressure in the system the more overhead, temperature wise you get, befor it will boil. The Group A Cossie Sierra race cars used to pre charge the coolant to about 40 PSI, so when a head gasket went they had a fair amount of temp overhead and a back pressure to help stop gasses entering the coolant. I'd say unless you NEED to run more coolant pressure run a stock cap. Old cars don't like sudden rises in coolant system pressure, and we all know old heater matrices are prone to failing. SteveR
I know a member who`s rad sprung a leak, guess what rad cap he was running, ...and the heater matrix went befrore that. On a year 2000 car, so not just the older ones.
