Mike B
I have the car up on ramps and I'm checking the gear box oil level. On previous sups I have topped up/changed the gearbox oil using the drain plug on the base, and adding new oil into the oversized grub screw half way up the case on the passenger side. On this car there is always full and when I pull the plug there is always excess.. so it got me thinking, is there is actually another place to top it up, as there is more oil in here already, than I can get in through this hole....... Perhaps the oil was put in whan the car was jacked on the passenger side only? any suggestions? any one know of an upper oil addition point? or anyone know how much oil should be in / how to measure? bignum
As far as i know there`s only the 1 hole halfway up the box for refilling/checking. I put 2 litres in last time i changed mine .
Mike B
me too bud, but it's full past that... so he must have put it in when the car was jacked up on a real angle... thanks
Chris Wilson
Drain some out then, too much gear or axle oil causes foaming and / or overheating. Should be level with the bottom of the fill hole (17mm spanner size hexagon plug, passenger side of gearbox).

Scott
Sorry to drag this one up but i've been attempting a service over the past few days. In order to fill up the gear oil do i just use a squeezy bottle or something?

In order to fill up the gear oil do i just use a squeezy bottle or something? I used a couple of metres of clear plastic tubing which you can get from the hardware section of B & Q. Stick one end in the filler hole and attach a funnel to the other end and fill it up from the side of the car. You shouldn't have much left from 2 litres and like Chris said it should be level with the bottom of the filler hole. It might be worth checking that you can loosen the filler hole plug first before you drain it out from the bottom hole.
