Jake
I was just wondering... if, hypothetically, my friend had dropped my their last can of Stella on a hard tiled floor at, for arguements sake, 23.55 BST when would be the earliest they could open it without needing to replaster the ceiling before SWMBO notices? jamesmark
I do this all the time, and I tap the top about 20 times and the bottom 20 times very quickly (same principle as a shaken can of juice). It does work..............................and and a sink comes in handy too.

It was only last week I bought my mate a can of coke and shook it all the way back from the machine, stood beside him and vigorously shook it. After his spat at moaning I done the tapping method and hey presto it opened up as normal and did not spill a drop.

RedM
According to RedM it is a myth. Why don't you just read up on it first before trying to seem clever. You never know, you might just learn something.

Ian C
Was it perhaps a cold can of coke, seeing as it came from the machine, and one of those links RedM supplied explains quite clearly why a cold can won't fizz up regardless of intricate tapping sequences? Did you perchance try three cans, one shook, one not shook, and one shook and tapped? That'd be a nice basis to come from rather than a one off I know someone who tapped the can periodically for about two minutes and then claimed the tapping worked when it didn't fizz up. So, the two minutes it sat unopened didn't have anything to do with it then
