Has anyone on here done one of these recently?

i am doing one on saturday so my fitness can be assessed before undertaking training for a year before i compete with a friend of mine in an ironman triathlon.

The army guys on here, what does it equate to on an BPFA? i seem to remember level 8-9 was a pass for around 10:30 run? does this sound about right?

i run 1 1/2 miles in just under 8:30mins can anyone gauge from this what level i should be aiming to get? my friend got to level 12and i have to beat her!

cheers

Richie

I used to do around level 14 and ran a 7:50 1.5 mile as my best. To be honest i don't think they are completely comparable, conditions are never the same and you can't pace yourself on a bleep test so well.

I expect you should be able to get to level 13 or 14 depending on the type of fitness work you do

i do 9 min average BPFA now, i used to get 7,15 a few years back but we do bleep tests coz the raf do them instead and you cant really compare the two.

level 8.2 is a pass in the raf but if you can get those times on a BPFA you should easily get level 13+

in selection i finished the tape, but i was a skinny wippet when i was 16 and that was def a fair few years ago

Have not done these for about 3 years now, but when in the RAF I use to run mile 1 1/2 mile about the 9:30 min and was easily able to get to 12 on bleep test. I think 12 is a good score anything above that is very good in my books.

Basically what I am saying is that you should be fine.

Not done a bleep test since I was in 5th form in school about 11 years ago:blink: I think if I did one now Id be lucky to be alive after level 3. I actually enjoyed doing them at the time:taped:

cheers guys, i i am hoping to get to around the 13-14 mark if i can, i am 33 this year so if i do i will be happy,

to me its one of those tests you either love or hate, i much prefere the old 1 1/2 mile warm up then 1 1/2 best effort, the bleep test to me is a pain as you cant get into your stride, it all the turning and that plays havoc on my knees and ankles, i much prefere to just go out and run the distance!

oh well at least now with the results posted on here i have something to aim to!!

fitness at the mo consists of 2 body pump sessions a week, 2-3 20-30km bike rides and 2-3 5km fast runs

Never done a bleep test (a bit after my time in the Army I suspect) but I well remember the damn BFT! Early in my career I could do the 2nd 1.5 in under 8 minutes.

I reckon it'd take me about 8 hours these days. :(

Good luck Richie - you old fart:d

OH!!!!!!!! i am in my prime at the moment!!! what thats what i tell myself!

The old BFT i think was still the best for assessing fitness, one thing though why the hell did we have to do the vertical standing jump, remember the one next to the chalk board? lick fingers- touch board- jump up and touch board again- measure distance to gain points WTF!!!!!!

I think you're being modest there Ken mate. Looking at you, I think you could easily do it in 6-hours:d:cool::D:cool::D
You've not seen me for a while though Andrew. I'm starting to look like your avatar these days. :(

Good job

What was the distance between points and whre was the test done ?

You'll have to see what your 1.5 mile time is now, i always found the bleep test was a long distance runners fitness tool do you do much long distance work ?

did the test at JJB sports in northants through a friend thats training us and the distance if i remember correctly was 20m, he measured it out, as he does one most weeks.

i am going to do a 1 1/2 mile run over the next few days to see what time i get.

As for distance my runs vary from 5km right up to 20km stuff so its all varied really,
