tDR
I'm currently selling a mobile phone (e700) on ebay and got this 'question for seller' thingy in my mail today: I am newly registered to ebay and i'm interested in the immediate purchase of your item , i will be sending payment via money order through western union auction payments {http://www.bidpay.com) as i wish to send this item to my son in africa nigeria,i would want to give him this item as a birthday package, because that is what he as always wished for, so i will want to confirm with you if you will be able to ship the item upon receival of confirmation and approval notification (receipt of payment)from western union auction payment/BIDPAY,i mean after payment is approved and confirmed. I will want you to ship the item via DHL or FEDEX and i will be paying you £400.00 plus shipping cost via DHL or FEDEX , i will give you further details on that as soon as you reply my mail and . if this is okay by you, Kindly get back with your full name and address for payment reply asap"" ------------ It all sounds a bit fishy to me but I cant see where they'd screw me? Is this a scam as suspected? Cheers, Brian.
Jake
Yeah of course it's a scam, Bri "This item"? Smells of a template email he sends to loads of folks. Is £400 the asking price of your phone?
neilg
Got to agree with Jake mate, why would he not say your phone? Refering to an item sounds dodgy. Plus there is far too much information on there for a first question dont you think. Surely as a starting point you would just ask will you take £400 for your phone? Stay clear mate

Lez
I've had personal dealings with this type of scam, not on ebay, but car selling websites, for thousands of pounds. I knew it was a scam and took them to the wire. Unfortunately HM customs intercepted the check before I could bank it. Leave it alone unless you know what your doing. MichaelG
Its a money laundering scam. Believe me. They offer you more than you are asking for items from foreign bank accounts, via western union because its untraceable. My dad was offered £3000 for a private reg he had advetised on ebay for £350..........they would pay him £3000 and from that he was asked to deduct the £350 and send the paperwork for the plate and a cheque for £2650 once the funds had cleared in his account........... I mean why not just send the £350 ? Would you send £3000 to someone you didnt know and hope they would send your £2650 back ???? lol Its a scam........Western Union and Nigeria always is.
