Windows XP service pack 3

Recommended Posts

Our desktop PC is getting update notifications about SP3.

Is it worth installing? It seems to be just a collection of all the fixes, patches and updates that get downloaded normally.

Any issues with it? Is it causing computer deathage?

I would say don't do it.

I have a SP3 version of windows that i installed on a few PC's. There are certain updates not available when its installed. Can't even get the latest Explorer or WMP.

Bit of a pain so i just went back to SP2.

Quite alot actually, SP3 brings XP in line with Vista SP1 from a managability point of view. Quite alot of under the hood changes!!

Really?

Even if that is true (which I find quite hard to believe) - as a user I am only concerned about my SINGLE PC.....and from that standpoint what are the similarities?

Was on the 2008 roadshow last week and they were explaining all about the changes in both Vista SP1 and XP SP3. SP3 includes changes for windows updates so they dont have to manage three operating systems seperatly.

One of the main goals is to do away with service packs alltogether and just role out hotfixes and updates through windows updates. It was noted that it is unlikely to be in XP or Vista's lifetime but its on the horizon!

Failed to install twice now.

Each time it gets to the 'Running processes after install' I get a million (well lots) of popups with auth error for various things, mainly the reg.

Each time I have to power the box off and let it uninstall.. :(
