SilverSoop Posted May 6, 2008 Share Posted May 6, 2008 Hi all, i was in Southampton earlier today and i had my tarot cards read with the girlfriend - it was her idea as she believes in this sort of thing. So to avoid an arguement, i went in with her for a 'couple reading'. First of all, i picked 7 cards and she picked 8 cards. The tarot reader did the rest. The cards me and my girlfriend picked was, uncanny because it pretty much was identical cards when the reader revealed them to us. The cards are face down so you cant see them, you just pick them on your gut instinct... What he revealed to me and Gemma about our relation to each other and the cards was...well...spooky as hell! We never met him before but he seemed to know alot about me and Gemma! He told me that i was the stress head out of us both, that we have had alot to deal with these past months - (my ex girlfriend), that we will soon be getting a house, will be soon having money coming towards us, we need more "us time" and also we will have 3 children in 2-3 years time! Most suprisingly though he said to me, "you have an interest, in vehicles"?? I said yeh, i own a Supra and am part of a car club. "Oh right he said because, i feel in the near future you will run a business with your interest and your lovely lady will help you and run a business with you"... But what brought the old goosebumps up was when he mentioned my job..."you have a guy at work who doesnt like you"?? Yeh i said, quite shocked...thats Graham, seems to have some sort of problem with me at work...Dont worry he said, "you will have to make some tough desicions in the next couple of weeks and months and when you get your new job, you will have money coming towards you"!!! How the hell did he know i was changing jobs?! And how the hell did he know i was having a pronlem at work with a bloke?! He also said, "This guy, dont worry because he soon will be gone and ignore him...free him from your mind"! Apparently, we have to stay positive in the "cosmic circle" and the house we will get will come to us, but, if me or Gemma is negative in any way whatsoever, we will miss out on a house that we want... The job i had planned though wasnt running a business, i had planned going back to university and doing my honors degree in geology and geography and then futhering this in order to become a palaeontologist...However running a business?? Im not so sure... I would recommend this though, as it is interesting to have done and most of the stuff he said, hit the nail on the head! Interestingly though, i was reading an article about an import/export business in the japanese performance mag yesterday and i thought...hmm, bet thats interesting! Even without prior knowledge of a person, a practiced cold reader can still quickly obtain a great deal of information about the subject by carefully analyzing the person's body language, clothing or fashion, hairstyle, gender, sexual orientation, religion, race or ethnicity, level of education, manner of speech, place of origin, etc. Cold readers commonly employ high probability guesses about the subject, quickly picking up on signals from their subjects as to whether their guesses are in the right direction or not, and then emphasizing and reinforcing any chance connections the subjects acknowledge while quickly moving on from missed guesses. Self-described Fortune tellers, psychics and mediums are often accused of using the technique. Basic procedure Before starting the actual reading, the reader will typically try to elicit cooperation from the subject, saying something like, "I often see images that are a bit unclear and which may sometimes mean more to you than to me; if you help, we can together uncover new things about you." One of the most crucial elements of a convincing cold reading is a subject eager to make connections or reinterpret vague statements in any way that will help the reader appear to have made specific predictions or intuitions. While the reader will do most of the talking, it is the subject who provides the meaning. After ensuring that the subject will play along, the reader will make a number of probing statements or questions, typically using variations of the methods noted below. The subject will then reveal further information with their replies (whether verbal or non-verbal) and the cold reader can continue from there, pursuing promising lines of inquiry and very quickly abandoning or avoiding unproductive ones. In general, while much information seems to come from the reader, most of the facts and statements come from the subject, which are then refined and restated by the reader so as to reinforce the idea that the reader got something correct. Even very subtle cues such as changes in facial expression or body language can indicate if a particular line of questioning is effective or not. Combining the techniques of cold reading with information obtained covertly (also called "hot reading") can leave a strong impression that the reader knows or has access to a great deal of information about the subject. Because the majority of time during a reading is spent dwelling on the "hits" the reader is able to obtain, while the time spent recognizing "misses" is minimized, the effect is to give an impression that the cold reader knows far more about the subject than any ordinary stranger could. Its cold reading, doesn't matter if its palm reading, card reading or talking to the dead its all the same crap. Derren Brown is a master at it, he is also a great hypnotist I have read many books on magic as i was a practicing close up magician. Also gives you a lot of information to shoot people down in arguments at dinner parties There are loads of them i have them all 5 Seasons, Lots of interesting copics covered. alternative medicine, alien obduction, feng shui, global warming, obiecity, self help, The bible, Gun control, circumcision, conspiricy theories, Cryptozoology (loch ness, bigfoot etc) and my favorite eprisode.... Only thing that me and Gemma thought was good was when he said that we have money coming towards us in order for our spectacular holiday... we are going to orlando in august and ive got to admit...that was pretty good, and im a scepital person!
