Car runs fine on 1.1bar, now 1.3 is a problem.

Was not a problem until recently.

No changes to the car since purchase apart from cosmetic ones, and new oil and filter.

The problem is a kind of blowing/spitting sound from the exhaust, as I say only happens on 1.3 bar, not the 1.1 bar setting.

Bought the car in nov'07.

Wondering if its the coil packs or dirty spark plugs, not sure what else it could be.

I have turbosmart eboost2, and hybrid turbos, and supporting engine mods and fuel pump mods, but stock j-spec injectors.

If it has been fine on 1.3 bar for many months why this now? Any ideas regarding the problem appreciated.

Thanks.

Its a possibility. Thanks mate. But I do have the greddy four row intercooler forgot to mention, and a fluidyne rad so I would have thought the cooling was ok. The temp gauge never goes past midway.

I thought it may have been det too, would be nice if someone in the area could give opinion on it after hearing it.

J spec or UK spec? - either or there is no point running more than 1.2 bar as you will generate far more heat than extra power. (get yourself an EGT gauge and it will help show you that yur about to fry your engine)

Change plugs and lower boost. All will be fine then hopefully

is the IC fully ducted??

also at 1.3bar the timing is prob getting drastically pulled which will rocket EGT's sp keep an eye on them

how is your fuel pump and injectors and do you have a wideband in there?? I would suggest getting one very soon and not driving it to hard until you know whats happening

J spec car. I understand if its the plugs, but the it coped with 1.3 before. But anyway. I hear what you are saying, EGT.

I have twin walbros and standard J-spec injectors. I'm not going to drive it hard like you say. :( It was already stressed by many people here to get an AFM wideband and AGT. Just did not see a massive need since there were no funny noises as above at 1.3 like there are now. The car runs fine at 1.1.

Since the car was running fine and there have been no engine or fuel mods since purchase, I'm hoping its plugs too. Will have to get it looked at by a specialist unless, it's an easy job checking the plugs.

The IC fully ducted? I don't know. I have some pics of the engine bay if that would help.

  • 9 months later...

I am reviving this thread as the problem seems to have sorted itself out. No plugs have been changed or anything tinkered with since I last posted about this.

All I did was to drive it very hard, and fast. At 1.1 it now pulls very hard, almost like it used to pull before on 1.3.

And 1.3 now feels and sounds like it did when I first bought the car, faster, and a lot more nimble.

Really just for the record. I don't understand what happened, there is a very tiny hesitation on near WOT sometimes, but nothing like before.
