hogmaw
I wonder what he will bring to the streets of London now he is mayor? Compulsory wearing of top hats by gentlemen, fagging in the town hall and toasted crumpets for breakfast? Anyway here is a reminder of THAT tackle, always makes me laugh oucho! Dragonball
Excellent - you can see he forgot he wasn't playing rugby! I think that Ken deserved to stay on - Boris is a puppet of the right (and especially the Evening Standard's Andrew Gilly-up-ya-arse) A loveable buffoon is about as serious as one can take him! However - not to worry - only a 12.5 billion quid budget
michael
The problem you have now is that Boris is probably quite sheltered and honestly believes that it's viable for everyone in London to cycle around the place. I like him though, he amuses me. 6wrSUeDxBhg

Interesting to see how he does, i don think he will aggrivate quite so many people. There wasn't a massive amount in the votes in the end though was there? I think Ken lost more due an association with Labour than anything else, OK he's an ass and all that but do you honestly see things getting better now? Gazboy
There wasn't a massive amount in the votes in the end though was there? I think Ken lost more due an association with Labour than anything else, OK he's an ass and all that but do you honestly see things getting better now? Ken lost because of the £25 kengestion charge proposal, specificaly the waiver of the 90% discount forresidents. That was serious money people were going to have to fork out. He said in 1986 when he worked for the GLC he would ban cars if he ever got into power and he was 5 months short of doing exactly that yesterday when he was voted out. Interestingly the chap responsible for trying to get Manchesters own CC zone up and running also lost out on Thursday. People don't give a sh*t about Polar Bears drowning when they are flat broke poor because of huge household bills, and this has been proven this week. Branners
I think Ken took some brave decisions in his day. The first phase of the congestion charge was great, without it London would have just become one big traffic jam. He pursuaded many to get on public transport through free travel for kids etc. I also liked his style with people, if he felt something was right he didnt back down, like when he had a go at a photographer who said he was just doing his job. However i dont think he stepped in on the big problems. Tube strikes should never of happened and the crime in certain bits of London is scary. So a new broom might be good. Boris is not going to be quite so brave and will rely on those around him to make his decisions. I dont see him stepping back any decisions already made though, congestion zone will stay etc.
R Black
I did'nt like Ken & many of his policies or one's in waiting, so i for one am glad he is gone. On Boris i think he is an Ass, i wait to see if can he can be any better, i'm not overly hopeful but i doubt he can be any worse, i put his victory down to the dislike of the Labour party & Ken as well as many people find him amusing. michael
It would be interesting to see what kind of people voted for Boris, I wonder if his almost celeb status attracted the sorts of people who ring up to vote for people on Big Brother or if they voted based on his politics? Havard
The man is a penis at best, but aren't they all...!! If my son ever told me he wanted to be a politician I would either put him up for adoption of make him leave home!! I'd rather him tell me that he was gay and that he was forming a Villiage People tribute band.... H.

imi
Glad that we got rid of Livingstone, he was bringing london to a halt with his ridiculous policies. I hope Boris reverses all that changes that Livingstone did. I think Ken took some brave decisions in his day. The first phase of the congestion charge was great, without it London would have just become one big traffic jam. . Hmm, i beg to differ... Common sense suggests that if you reduce the roads by 40-50% and convert them to bus lanes or pedestrianize them; introduce restrictions then obviously you will CREATE a congestion. A bit ridiculous when you provide a solution to a problem that you create.... He pursuaded many to get on public transport through free travel for kids etc. . Well, he started penalising people for driving and started treating drivers as criminals. I also liked his style with people, if he felt something was right he didnt back down.. What I did like about him was that he did exactly what he said he would do. If we didnt like it, we simply dont vote for him again. And finally we voted him out. DaveR
I voted for Boris. I like to think he's going to do a MUCH better job than Red Ken, who, as was so rightly pointed out in the previous post, has screwed up London royally from drivers' points of view. All Boris has got to do is scrap the plans for the £25 a day Congestion Charge for powerful cars (that'll be all of us on here, presumably...) and his term as Mayor will have been completely worth it...
