Come on Michael, spill....??

I'm guessing a Citroen AX GT after my post of a couple of days ago........got you tempted didn't it? The power of suggestion!!:D

Don't bother with the GT, go for the 1.9 diesel Avantage estate like mine. Absolute stormer of a motor, although it is the epitome of "gutless".

We were actually taking the pi$$, Mr Licence!!

Even if it was raining golf balls I wouldn't get into an AX....:) I have been to a few accident scenes with these and been horrified by the way they fold on impact. The only thing I have seen worse than this is a Fiat Uno......:(

if you have to take a train then I find this site quite useful

http://www.raileasy.co.uk/

it was better before they started loading on charges for debit cards and transaction processing, but has a good way of finding the cheapest options on a journey.

The company I work for are opening a venue in Birmingham in June so Im on the train to Brum once a month. Its all a bit random, some times its good, some times not so good. Stupidly expensive at rush hour and reasonable value otherwise. Still tempted to drive though.

The trains here in the UK never fail to wind me up, even though I only use them once or twice a year.

They're slow, irregular, never running when you want them, expensive, often replaced by a bus service, expensive, staffed by people of questionable knowledge and hygiene, expensive, dirty, overcrowded, expensive, difficult to locate routes when interchanges are involved, over-priced, and quite often full of drunken rapscallions.

Just last night my ex-girlfriends/flatmates (delete as appropriate) train was cancelled - she couldn't get home from Oxfordshire to Hampshire last night after 22:00, couldn't have made it down in time for work this morning (before 09:00), which all resulted in me taking a 3 hour (and well re-numerated) round trip in the car. Which incidentally stopped me watching the new Rambo movie, and irritatingly kept me sober a lot longer than I was intending.

The only good thing to come out of my experiences struggling to use our national public transport service was my discovery of http://www.traveline.org.uk/index.htm which was a really fast and efficient service :)

Having used public transport in various locations across the USA, Europe, and Asia I have to say the the service here is the most expensive and dysfunctional I've come across, yet for some reason we're told to keep using it, and I can't see any great plans to improve matters.

I only hope that the shame that the public transport system brings on the country when we host the Olympic Games will finally cause someone to take up improving this as a worthy cause ...
