Leave in drive when sitting in traffic?

I was reliably informed it causes less wear on the box if you leave it in D - so that's what I do. I would only put it in P if I knew I was going to be stationary for a looooonnnggg time.

thats exactly how chris wilson put it

So you guys are some of the people who sit in traffic with the brake lights glaring? I really hate that, it's nearly as bad as leaving your rear fog lights on... :twak: Bloomin' auto drivers...:p

i'd rather p*ss you off than fcuk my gearbox :D

One argument for putting the gearbox in neutral when stopped, is that if someone runs into the back of you, you won't roll forwards as far if the impact jolted your foot off the brake (or the clutch on a manual).

I'd consider not rolling into oncoming traffic more important than the wear on the gearbox.
