michael
just like a PC then Not really, on a PC I can't alt-tab and amuse myself with something else while it faffs around, on a PC they give me nice pictures to look at while things install... Oh and add "Download failed" to the list above... several times. Anyone want to buy a PS3? Less than 12 hours old
Pig
PS3 has had lots of updates since it came out. Hence why your having to download loads of cr4p. Once every couple of months or so a new update will come out and you will need to do it again. Annoying but worth it to get rid of bits that are wrong or that can be improved. Whitesupraboy2
did you get to play GT5 prologue? what did you think of it?
michael
did you get to play GT4 prologue? what did you think of it? I came out of the update download when it seemed like it would take 9 days to complete and had a couple of laps in a Ford Focus - graphics are impressive, physics seem well sorted, AI is vastly better but I need time to get used to playing with the control pad mushrooms again after being PC & wheel orientated for a good few years. Then I let it download the update again, it failed... and again... then again... I started it off again this morning and left for work, I suspect it's failed by now. Pig
I'm wireless. Whats your signal strength? You can find this by going into setting for net connections ( i think ) Mine is running @ 67% with and with a normal router it kept dropping signal but with the better one it was fine. Thorin
It was a rather impressive 100% when I set it all up. Me too, got my nice shiney new wireless router the other day. I'd never used wireless before, got one of these "Pre-N" ones as I figured I may as well.... Draytek router, Netgear USB wireless adapter, both support "Pre-N", do they talk to each other? Do they balls. PS3 and Wii work fine though. I remember the GT5 update failing a couple of times but no more than that. I think I've now been through every playable demo in the store now too. Multics
I'd rather have a system which is being updated and improved every now and then than a Microsoft box which keeps on failing (heard of many psu, fan, dvd issues resulting to RMAs). I'll never exchange my PS3 for an Xbox
michael
I think I'd rather have a powerful gaming PC and a console that has games that start instantly from a cart but then I could have done that and haven't so I guess I'm talking out of my ass now and actually want a PS3... Whitesupraboy2
I have to admit when I got the xbox I was really worried about it failing like I had heard, but touch wood its been fine. 5 of my friends have an xbox and so far only 1 has failed in a year. The ps3 is good and is a machine for the future, but it appears disc space has gone up greatly to store the larger games but the drive cant work quick enough to just play it so you have to install alot of it. Bobbeh
I had download problems with the prologue update but as it's to be expected for a new game like that... and 12 hours later it downloaded no problems. Most updates and PS downloads generally are fine.. especially on 20 mbit Sadly in this new place I'm currently only on 2, so I feel the pain a little more Besides, you're only downloading updates so you can play the games online.. and with most online games they get updated a fair bit. Pabs
initial downloads are a PITA - but once done it's fantastic, and IMO, well worth it! GT5 Prologue graphics are amazing, no realistic damage is annoying though - I've actually had my car flying at two points so far - all 4 wheels off the floor jumping over somone else online! lol GT5 update though - you'll struggle to download during busy times as every b*gger is downloading it - and it takes ages, sometimes failing. I downloaded at 7am and got it in about 20 mins without any issues. EDIT: Also on wireless router and it's fine - good signal strength and good performance too. My limiting factor is a 2MB BB line with 2GB D/L limit
