Fargo
Was at SENI last weekend (like a trade show for the martial arts) and saw an excellent demo of capoeira, and so im think about starting to learn this one (on top of karate and krav maga lol). Anyone here do it.
grahamc
I was at SENI as well... generally thought it was rubbish! Capoiera is good fun, lots of strength and flexability is needed, VERY different type of martial arts, from the other styles I have done.
Fargo
indeed seni was rubbish, i only went to see the first ever International Chi Sao tournament and also the other half was attending a course with Steve Rowe. What about the ring girls walking arounf, were they ropey or WHAT..
grahamc
the real cage woman, OMG the others were just so bad!! I found the jackie chan tea, which is pretty cool!!
razza
been once, never again, the demos are so staged it made me realise that actually I have found a good art. Did they do a Systema demo at all? Usually they're done on the spot without much preparation, i.e. the guys just attack each other and deal with it. They're normally a bit too much in camo gear though lol! Always scares me the amount of people you see walking away from seni with great big bloody swords:blink: Capoeira always looks nice, would be great for balance and flexibility, not too sure about practicality though as you need a fair amount of room to do it (not something you'll be able to use down the pub). Give it a try and see what you think, if you're doing Krav Maga then you don't have to worry too much about the practicalities of another art. We had a guy come along a few times who had done it, I ended up just standing on his leg alot:innocent: He also struggled when he turned up one day with fairly heavy boots on, tried to do something and fell on his arse because he wasn't used to the weight of his boots:d, not exactly useful everyday.... supra_aero
My bro did Capoiera. I did abit but by no means on a serious level. Helps if you have done gymnastics or breakdancing or something similar as you need good balance/strength/flexibility. Very fun and yes looks awesome if you can do it well practicing in the park. grahamc
I have seen some people that were very good, but it is a more flash style. Got be very good, to use it in a real life situation... other styles would give you better ability in a shorter time for defense purposes. However it is a good/fun style to learn!!
