i'm with matt here, looks like a fun little car for very little money, ok vauxhall aren't known for there unbelivable reliability but at the end of the day it's a cheap fun runaround. Pete may have had some bad experiance with vauxhall's and is entitled to his opinion but to say they are all a POS is a bit harsh.

best of luck with the sale matt, hope all goes well, don't let people's comments get to you buddy and stay calm, as annoying as it is the minute you start screaming and shouting it'll make you in the wrong;)

right

the red top part is the l shape on the rocker cover thats it

this is painted black or as said some came black when out of the factory like this one did

but it means exactly the same thing

i have had a front cover car in 2002 with revs with a calibra 16v with a silver rocker cover and a pink l shape plug cover so does that make it a pink top? maybe in some views

and here come the gags about it being pink

i never asked for your opinion

no wonder people dont sell stuff with comments like that imho

and your a moderator too pete i would of thought more of you than to slate it and you dont even know the car or driven it or even seen it except for the pics and i have owned several cars myself so please leave it out

im not asking for your comments on how it looks, drives etc coz you dont know and i would never say its something its not

I'll elaborate a little bit for you.

I was heavily into the CorsaSport scene back in the days when it was new and had a great time. I absolutely loved that car. I'd been in a number of 2 litre conversions, hell I nearly did it myself so I am quite familiar with the setup and what people did to the suspension to try and compensate.

If it's "stupidly quick" then I'd suggest it's also stupidly dangerous as I note there's no brake upgrade mentioned and they don't stop well on standard brakes.

The basic truth is so many things went wrong with my GSi that shouldn't have and the dealerships are all a joke (tried 5 in the local area and none of them could give a half decent level of service), they're just not built to last.

I've known numerous other people that have bought them as first cars etc - I warned them all not to and they all had major issues with them.

It's all left a terribly sour taste in my mouth as you can see.

I do quite like the VX220 though....apart from the engine.

till he told me it had a 2ltr 16v tuned calibra red top motor in it

well its got the brakes, interior in leather the lot and heated front seats too with electric windows and heated mirrors

i think it might have a brake upgrade Pete? But its not got a lot of info about them. :)

For the record my initial comments were from the point of view of a potential buyer, I'm currently looking for a "fun" car around the budget this one was advertised for.

I have an MR2 auto for £1,200 if interested ;)

FWIW A colleague of mine had a genuine 2l red-top in a stripped out Corsa.

DAMN! that thing could move. The Supra absolutely could not keep up in the twisties and the Corsa was far more agile in traffic.

Of course, empty m-way and the Supra would streak ahead blah blah blah.....

I got something last night I'm afraid, I pick it up tomorrow - I did think about an MR2 but I know I'd be too tempted to spend more money on it.

not with an auto surely?

As you know they are great little cars, handle exceptionally well. If I ever give up on Supras its an MR2 turbo or an RX7 for me.

I can't help myself, if I do ever buy another MR2 it'll be getting a V6 in it I think :)

As you say they are great cars, I'll have another one soon no doubt.

That fits OK? Got any links to converted V6 MR's? I'd be interested to see that.

Did you know the MR2 Mk1 was the first sports car to win Japanese Car of the year?

Johnny has an MR2 for sale along with a V6 engine ready to drop in. If you check out IMOC there are a few of them kicking about. I can't be 100% sure on the name but i think the guy that started it off here was Paul Woods, almost certain the company name is woodsport.

Anyway, back on topic. My mate had a 2l redtop and he loved it. Had some teething problems but nothing major as long as its setup properly. Stronger suspension and a big brake upgrade is a bit of a must though.

I had one on the motorway in my 106 though ;)

Fits a treat :) The Camry V6 seems to be the engine of choice in the UK but the US chaps have a wider choice of Toyota stuff. Some with superchargers, some with turbos - johnny g on here has one under development so can probably tell you lots more about the specifics.

jevansio's mate has (had) a really nice black example, the install looks like it came out of the factory like that, his was one of the first I remember seeing and drooling over.

I didn't but I nearly bought one the other day but came to my senses in the end :)

Having said that a MK1.5 with the 3S-GTE still appeals if it's rust free, some chap in the US was putting a V8 in one but I lost track of the project.

Cool car Matt

cheers mate

looks like im going to have to use it for the next couple of days as my bloody drivers window wont go up or down on the supra (yer there built well aint they? only had it less than two weeks and its already packing up on me) as for the brakes there claibra 2ltr 16v off the same calibra as the engine etc

that engine isn't a red top, it's an ecotec 16v.

The red tops had red spark plug covers (as mentioned earlier) and the ecotec's had black (like this one) as well as a slightly different plenum from memory (again, like the one in the pic). Red tops were in the earlier calibra's up to about 95, with the ecotec more able to meet emissions standards. The ecotec was also about 15bhp down on the red top. Still a quick motor though!
