..............and rightly so. It has become acceptable that bad spelling, text speak etc or ok when it comes to communication. I think this is the basis of the whole dumbing down culture at present. People don't seem to take a pride in their abilities to spell correctly!!

When I post I regularly get stuck with a spelling. I either google it, type it in word document to check OR use another shorter word......:D

I think it's ok to pull people over bad spelling as long as it is done in a polite manner. My spelling has improved since joining this site. It's good to have standards IMO!

Yeah I use spellchecker before I post mainly because my written English isn't 100% (I am German). And I posted in a different thread earlier I absolutely hate text type and punctuations that are missing.

But some people here get picked up because they switch a letter within a word or stuff. That's a bit extreme in my opinion that's all.

At least you make the effort and that is highly commendable. Many others don't.

The problem for me, is that I see it as a kind of viral thing. It spreads. I find myself making stupid mistakes now too and I attribute it to reading those mistakes all the time on forums like this.

Sometimes it's just too much to take. I got a right telling off and even threats of violence for my comments on this one: :taped:

You sound surprised Carl......:D I think calling them all retards was a step too far but it had a great response from "Hard Billy" or whatever his name was!

I thought it was great how he claimed you wouldn't have said it if you were stood in front of him. If you were both speaking, the mistake would never have been spotted.......retard!!:D

Or take a look at the thread on "my getrag gearbox" in the mkiv technical...:)

Four pages of people helping you and one correction to a potentially confusing thread title request at the start. What a nightmare - you should sue :)

Is that the best examples we have of the "accidently miss a word or accidently spell incorrectly, the spelling police are on your back straight away" phenomenon? Surely not. I mean that sentence implies that if I merely missed out a letter of a word, a simple typo that amyone could do, the "spelling police" (which says to me multiple people) would be posting corrections instantly.

Or is it a storm in a teacup :)

I do it because of two reasons. Firstly because I don't want to be picked on by the spelling Police and secondly because I don't want to look like a ti*. :D

:rlol::respekt: spot on!!!

abscess sounds awful  sympathies fellah

I went to the dentist today and had a clean bill of health, I have a good set of teeth, apparently :D Not that I'm rubbing that fact in.... only ever had one filling :eyebrows:

No, im sure there are more examples just means finding them. Im just saying that picky things like in the thread "my getrag gearbox" was picked upon instead

of "the getrag gearbox" thats all im saying. If i dont spell a word correctly, then im up for changing it straightaway like everyone else, but things like that - well,

i just think there's really no need for it tbh...:)
