supra_si
Am i able to run a FMIC with the standard box or do i have to get an induction kit due to where the pipes go? can someone clarify this rumour ive heard thankyou
jamesmark
Usually you have to have an aftermarket induction kit, however if you get a pipe custom made there is no reason why you cannot have the stock box. You also have to make sure with the stock box allows ample room for the intercooler pipe to go into the wing. I was going to fit my old UK spec with the stock box but it did not fit, I needed about 2 inches more room.
JODY T
you can run both, it depends on the hard pipe as to how much clearance there is... Its a bit tight
supra_si
aii i dont like it too tight, dont want things touching and melting. looks like i will be on the look out for an induction kit in the near future as well then

A FMIC is to force in cold air.
Swampy442
Most intercooler kits specify you have to lose the airbox. I got an ARC airbox with my cooler and now its useless As James said Im getting a custom pipe made up to accomodate
supra_si
ahhh i was looking at an arc box and wondered how it would fit near intercooler piping. looks like il save my money and not go for one of them
Swampy442
Not go for the airbox or the cooler? Id dump the cooler over the ARC any day, its so coooool lol

Supra_Si are you planning on going single? If not why not go for a replacement smic instead of a pointless fmic?
supra_si
because a sidemount costs just as much as a fmic these days if not more if i went new oem sidemount. im not going single well touch wood until something blows up
Nic
Am i able to run a FMIC with the standard box or do i have to get an induction kit due to where the pipes go? can someone clarify this rumour ive heard thankyou It all depends on the FMIC you're fitting, most of the decent Japanese branded ones fit with the stock airbox, the cheap ebay ones tend not to. supra_si
ahh cheers nic, you got any ssqv's in stock yet?
Swampy442
IMO unless youre running big boost figures and big power an fmic is mostly for show. But I suppose in a way its future-proofing cos plans always change lol. Nic, mate of mine bought a pukka GReddy kit for his Soarer and that stated you had to replace the standard airbox. Homer
As Nic says, it's only the cheap and nasty ebay stuff that tends to interfere with the stock airbox. THe HKS and Greddy kits are designed to work with the airbox in place (I've fitted 3 of these, all with stock air boxes)
