How long does cement take to go hard?

Mix is ok so must be the sand, if you used soft sand (fine sand) then it will take a while to go off but will probs be ok, should have used sharp sand or ballast really.

I was hoping to put it down to the rain last night. It was semi set before it came down so theres no water marks in it. I'm just dreading having to dig it all out again as i had to take it back a fair way.

Concrete will go off (go hard) under water, so it won't have been the rain.

How old was the cement you used? How well did you mix it before adding the water? The mix you used was very cement-rich (usually you'd use something like a 5:1 mix for something like that. So there might be some problems with the hydration time because of that.
